When I take picture it is black when downloaded to computer. This is a new problem. Have taken many photos that were perfect. Have not used in several months and now, no picture. Can it be the picture card? Using a San Disk 256 MB Compact Flash that has been in camera for months.
Also, do I need batteries when using an elec cord. I have been using both. batteries and elec.

Common fault with these models and is caused by faulty CCD sensor. Canon will probably repair free of charge so send it in . As I said very common with this model.

Sony had a certain issue with the CCD chip on this camera. If it's this issue, they'll fix it free plus $20 until March 2010.

It is possible that your Imager/ the CCD is not working or defective. This might need closer look to confirm and I wish it will be betterr to have this checked at the Canon service centre, take and estimate before you think of a repair. If you have not used the camera for a long time keep it ON for some hours and try, If you have exposed the camera to High intensity light/ direct sunlight, it ispossible to damage the device. So check this out. Good day

Hi
I have got an S5000 that I can still view previously taken pictures from the card, but when trying to take pictures the screen and view finder shows a peculiar distorted purple and green picture and any picture taken is just a green blur.
I contacted Fuji and they say they can repair it for £90 (about $120)

ORITE MODEL dV3020 BLANK VIEW FINDER

You have images on the Card- Yes? The flash works -Yes? Now you cannot take pic's is that what you mean. One of many thing- are you getting error messages? Are you sure you are getting images to the card? There may be images on the card but the screen has gone down- If you hold the camera at a slight angle can you see dim images[if yes screen back light down] If No images a connector or CCD problem. Make sure you have fresh batteries Gently squeeze the casing near the bottom of the screen- it may be a loose connector. Depending on how long you have had this -get onto the Seller or Manufacturer's web site tech support- there may be a replacement available. There will almost certainly be no repair option on this type of camera
