There are several problems with my camera one of them is the fact in that Every time i turn on my Lumix 10x mega pixel camera the lens won't focus it also won't let me take any pictures. When i turn the camera off the lens won't go back into the camera but when i turn it back on the lens gos in and then out again. There is one more problem whenever i go to look at the pictures on play i can look through a few before its says "please turn camera off then on a again" it also says the same message 10 seconds after turning on my camera. My problem may be sand. Because it stopped working properly after i went to the beach. Please let me know whats wrong asap as on the 20 i am going to thorpe park. the on a family holiday and a wedding the day after. Please help its very important to me. :( Meg Wilcox Age 12

OK, if there is sand in the camera, the gears will bind or stop causing the error that you described. I think it needs to be taken apart and cleaned by a service center before using again. Or you could buy a spare caemera to use on your family holiday and wedding.

Canon powershot SD1300 IS digital elph 12.1 mega pixels this message shows on my camera "lens error. will shut down automatically. restart camera". Now the lens extended, and I don't know...

I'm afraid that it's a new lens assembly or a professional repair. Unless the camera is still under warranty.
Same thing happened to my Panasonic Lumix. I completely stripped down the camera to see if I could find the offending bit of dust or dirt that everyone online says is the problem. No chance. I tried all the tricks, including banging the camera quite hard on my kitchen table (I was quite frustrated by that point!)
I've narrowed it down to a small motor that controls the lens and consequently the focus part. But you simply can't buy the parts. A professional repair quoted more than the camera was worth so I sold it on ebay for 'spares or repair' and bought a new one.
The 'lens error' problem plagues all of these compact zoom cameras, so unfortunately it's a very common fault and expensive to repair.
Sorry it's not good news.

Focusing Problem

hi, if you can open your camera and remove the lens unit assy(just be carefull to the flat cable its easy to be broken) you can clean by yourself just to remove the sand goes inside of the lens unit and also to the gear.make it sure you need to use magnifying glass to see the small pc of sand .some time the sand goes to the gear that cause of malfunction or not rotate properly and also the focus gear have also sand that why the focus is bad.if you can't do this just bring to service center and request for cleaning.

thank you

Panasonic Lumix, lens won't close

The nylon ratching cable that moves the lens on cameras will sometines slip a notch and cause the camera not to be able to focus properly. The camera detects this condition.

In addition, if there is an obstruction internally or externally, not allowing the camera to be able to fully extend the lens, this will cause a camera error.

You could try a little graphite lub on the lens itself while extended, and coax is with slight manual pressure. I would not recommend an oil base lub like WD40. It may work in the short term, but will collect dust and cause more problems in the future. A small plastic puff tube of graphite, dry carbon, is available from any hardware stores and some walmarts. It will lub like crazy, but is a dry powder and dust won't stick to it.

Once your lens is working, wipe off the lens barrel with a dust collecting cloth to remove any excess graphite. It is BLACK and you don't want it near the lens surface. Don't clean lense surface unless it shows it is necessary.

If this doesn't work, sell your camera to a repairman on an ebay auction and buy another used, refurb, or new one on ebay. Good prices, even on the newer TZ5.

Focus

The little white ring on around the lense, that is the focus on the camera. Now the other issue with picture quality is the camera itself. I believe this camera only 1.3 mega pixels to get a less blurry higher quality pic u should use a higher mega pixel camera
