Question about HP Pavilion a1710n (RK573AA#ABA) PC Desktop
The HP Pavilion a1710n desktop computer, comes with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor.
(4200+ is the Model Number.
At full capacity it operates at 2.2GigaHertz.
Giga = Approximately 1 Billion
Hertz stands for Cycles per Second
The 4200+ can operate up to a frequency rate, of 2.2 Billion Cycles per Second )
This AMD Athlon processor uses an AM2 processor socket.
When buying a CPU cooler, look at what processor socket it is for, first.
Then if processors are listed, make sure the Processor in your computer is compatible, with what is listed.
Finally see if the Height of the CPU cooler is listed. If not, suggest you perform a search on the internet for that cooler, and see if the specifications are listed.
The motherboard rests sideways in the computer case. The Width of the computer case is taken into account, for comparing the Height of the CPU cooler, and determining if it will fit.
When looking at the high-end CPU coolers, you also have to take into account the circumference of the CPU cooler.
Make sure there are no hardware components nearby the processor socket, that will interfere with mounting that cooler.
If you are just looking for a replacement CPU cooler, and not a high-end aftermarket unit, this is one example for stock replacement,
This is another example,
Also recommend that you replace the Thermal Paste compound.
To cheap in cost not to replace, and is always added insurance.
An example of Thermal Paste (Grease) compound,
The top of the Processor's case must be thoroughly cleaned, before applying new thermal compound.
There is a tried, and true method I use, and would be happy to pass it on. (Post in a Comment for guidance)
Always follow Anti-Static Precautions, BEFORE you reach inside your unplugged from power computer.

That's a hard question to answer, you need to fine out what CPU you have inside and then look up CPU coolers for that CPU style. Since your using a pre assembled machine you may have a specialized hole pattern making an aftermarket cooler hard to find. and use.
