SOURCE: I have just upgraded to

Hi. Did you mean upgrade or downgrade? XP is older version than windows 7. Error you are getting means that the system cannot find the path specified. Are you installing the program using the the installer disk?

I loaded Check-it Fastmove on a laptop running windows XP. It will not start up and gives the following message: Could not start communication service. It worked fine on my old Desktop running windows XP.

I struggled with this same problem a few years back. I tried a couple of different compatibility modes for the fastmove.exe file and finally settled on Windows 98/Windows ME mode. When you right click on fastmove.exe and enable this mode in properties, you still aren't all the way there. When you try to run fastmove in this mode you will get another error message. Something about how it could not find a file called paralnk.vxd (actually the error message mispells the file name as paralink.vxd).

Well this file is only necessary for parallel port connections which I don't think anyone uses anymore (everyone should be using USB to sync). So I got to thinking that all the Fastmove program needed to see was a dummy file called "paralnk.vxd." And I was right. So this is what you need to do.

1. Find "fastmove.exe" in your program files, right click on it, click on properties, go to compatibility tab, enable "Windows 98/Windows ME" compatibility mode.

2. Go to your Windows\system32 folder and right click on some empty space. A dialogue box comes up. Mouse over "New" then click on "Text Document." After you have created the new text document, rename it to "paralink.vxd." You will get a warning message about changing the filetype from txt to vxd, but ignore it.

It doesn't matter that the new paralink.vxd is just a dummy text file. Fastmove doesnt use the file for anything. It just wants to see that it is there.

And that is how you get fastmove working on XP. It also works in Vista.

I sure wish they would update this program, but it got discontinued. Best sync program I ever used. I wish I knew who the actually developer was. I would contact them and see if they wanted to update it on an open source project.

Hi uplate

c:\windows\system32
the image should be called oemlogo.bmp

rename this file to oemlogo-old.bmp
open up "oemlogo.bmp" using paintbrush and save again as oemlogo.bmp making sure that it is going to be saved in the same place ie c:\windows\system32
once done either edit the oemlogo.bmp file or create a new image file, making sure that your new image file is the same pixle size as the origional oemlogo.bmp file.

my current oemlogo.bmp file is quite small, but experement to see what is best.

I initially found out how to do this from the following link. not all systems have this oemlogo.bmp file but you should be able to create one and save it in the system32 folder without issue.

The following file is missing or corrupted; C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD type the name of the windows loader (e. g., C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\VMM32.VXD)

That is a special file, created during Windows installation. Every computer uses a different VMM32.VXD file, so you can't simply copy one from another system and expect it to work.

If you can't find that file by searching the system in DOS, you could wipe the drive and reinstall Windows again, or do a repair install, installing Windows on top of itself. That should force the creation of a new VMM32.VXD file, and that problem should be history.

If you DO find the file somewhere on the HDD through a DOS search, copy it into the Windows\System folder, then reboot the system.

98 loading error message

When you format something you WILL lose all of the data that was there. I would also recomend upgradeing to XP, 2000, or NT. You may need to reinstall the OS. If you need instructions ask me and I can help.
