have changed listings to answer this for you. If the white tag on the left side of the sd card is at the top then write protection is OFF If it is already set to the top then the SD card is damaged and cannot generally be recovered. replace the card is the only option. There is a lot written about this on the internet, non of the suggestions have worked.

Every time I try to save something the drive I get a message saying it's write protected.

Make a note of the folder where the file being saved is being written.
Use a file manager (e.g. windows explorer for Windows XP) to check the permissions of the folder. If the folder is perhaps not writeable by the user with which you are logged into the system. Or the folder could be a system protected folder. If the folder (saving location) is on a SC card or an USB drive, check whether the write protect switch of the device is closed, which makes the device readonly.

My HP usb drive- v165w cannot be opened, says its write protected and even unable to format the drive, which keeps saying write protected.

Hi. You must have used your usb ext drive from a different computer with a different OS. Try saving your files online and format your ext drive from the former pc you used it with then plug it in the new pc you want to use it with.

My PC could not save file in my flash drive where as folder can.

Maybe the root of the USB drive is protected. If you got any switch for write protection in the USB drive, unlock it and try saving.

Thank you!

Cant remove write protect

Download this small file:

Save the file on your desktop. Then double click the writeenable.reg file and click on Yes when Windows asks if yo u want to write to registry.

That;s it. Now you can try to create a new folder on your usb drive and it should be created. That means it's now normal.
