Not all features are available in all shooting modes. For example, Macro in not available in the Landscape mode, or in 'Fireworks' or 'Kids & Pets' of the Scene mode. Check the chart at the end of the Advanced manual to see details.

What settings for macro on canon powershot

your problem is most likely your flash... I am sure you already know to push the button that looks like a flower to make sure you are in macro mode but your flash is burning out your shot.. turn off the flash by pressing the button that look like a little dragon tail and just use your ambient light and it should turn out better... a mini tripod will help as well

Problems with macro close ups

First make sure the lens is clean. Now set the dial to P mode. Hold down the flower button for a few seconds and the camera will go into "super macro" mode - keep watching the screen or the viewfinder until this happens. You might also feel the zoom resetting itself. You can now go right up to the subject, literally almost touching it - be careful not to damage the lens by hitting the subject! I think in normal macro mode 4" is too close.

How to take Supermacro pix?

Super Macro will not work in "auto" mode. If you put it in "P" mode (and possibly the other manual modes) and then press the "macro" (little flower looking think) button to the left of the lens under "MF" (manual focus). It will display "hold for super macro" on the screen.

Super macro

Press the macro button once to get it to display the Macro Mode sign. Press and hold it after that to get it into Super Macro

Once you are in Super Macro, you can't move the lens so you MUST use the Manual Focus (MF) button that is located right above the Macro toggle button. While holding the MF button, use the 4 way directional pad to focus in and out. Press the Up and Down to focus.
You have to be REALLY close for Super mode.. less than about 6 inches

Blurred pictures

Batteries don't play a role in it. Maybe it has slow focus. Try to push the shooting button to only half of its full push, wait a while until it focuses an then shoot by full press on the shoot button. You can also check if you have not switched on macro settings (flower in frame). If you do, turn it off.

Cannon A530 selection **** not functioning correctly

The only idea I have about it is that it's broken. It sounds like the switch is broken on the inside and only initiates in certain modes because those are the ones you used most frequently and just kind of skipped over them. Instead of switching one at a time, you just turned the knob to the one that you wanted and just had a "prize wheel" noise while turning the knob. I don't have a clue on how to fix it, but I think that's the problem.

Here ya go:

Look for the section describing "macro" shots. (or just select the little button with a flower on it on the back of your camera. Remember to deselect it when going back to normal pictures)
