Question about Singer 7426 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

I have a Singer 7426. The needle is hitting the hook area incorrectly, making a jerking motion with the needle along with a tapping noise. Any idea how to correct it?

The needle probable is bent-has to be replaced so it won't damage the needle bar
if the needle is hitting the needle plate then it needs to be check for burrs, small burrs can snag the fabric

Why does my needle keep breaking on my singer 2263

Normally because it is out of synchronisation. Or, you are using the wrong needle, or have it in the slot incorrectly. You need to take it for service.

When the hand wheel is manually operated it then makes a clicking noise near the presser foot

Have you tried a brand-new needle? Frequently, a bent or damaged needle will make noise.

If you are able, hand turn the handwheel and watch the needle and hook action. You may see the needle hitting. Or try removing the needle and listen if the sound continues. If it doesn't, then it's the needle. If a new needle doesn't cure the problem, could be the needle/hook timing is off. May need service.

How do I stop my singer prelude sewing machine from making so much noise?

Reset all dials. Straight stitch, 1 or 2 in length, ease the thread tension and see if it helps. The only area that makes noise is around the bobbin/needle part of sewing machines.

Possible problem is the machine has thread caught in the hook area, or the feed dogs are packed with lint. Remove the needle plate and clean out all thread and lint.

Hi Jennifer:

Do you understand how a stitch is formed on a sewing machine? The needle goes down to its full down position. At that point the shuttle hook should be pointing right at the needle scarf, ready to go past it as the needle starts to go up.

When the needle starts its upward travel it forms a loop... the shuttle hook enters the loop and the bobbin thread is "captured" in that loop.

If your machine's timing is advanced, the needle will hit the hook and break or make nasty thumping noises. If your timing is ********.... the hook misses the loop entirely and does nothing.

So... open up the entire bobbin/throat plate area.... take the foot off so you can see. Clean if necessary. Then turn the hand wheel by hand until you see that the needle is at the lowest point of travel. Where is the shuttle hook?

From there you'll have to use your logic to find the right screws and adjust the hook.

Here' is a Parts Chart for your machine.

Good luck!
