Time to give it a good clean.

Sodium Bicarbonate of soda will help clean and remove this bitter taste from all the delivery system.

1TB spoon to a pint of water and leave tpo soak for 4 hrs then run to drain. Flush out with clean water after.

Thyere is also a commercial product called CLR thyat is OK to use, just flush well after use ( CLR = Calcium Lime RUST remover)

water will boil at 91.673 degrees celcuis. This will affect the brewing of coffee beans. Can you try using a finer grind of coffee ?

How can I avoid bitter coffee?

If the water that comes into contact with the coffee grounds is too hot, you will extract bitter elements from the coffee. The water should not be boiling when poured on the coffee grounds. Coffee oils, fats and sediment are the natural parts of the coffee bean that causes bitterness by forming as the brew ages. The longer the coffee sits the stronger it tastes.

Bitter taste

You will likely find the bitterness is a function of your coffee bean choice or the 'roast' component of that coffee. Darker roasts tend to taste bitter.

Over time, my coffee has become acrid and bitter. I use fresh ground coffee and clean my pot regularly...what else should I do?

There may be some buildup in the machine other than in the pot itself. To test this, try running the brew cycle with no beans. Taste the hot water. If it's acrid and bitter, your problem lies in buildup (such as the basket). Otherwise, if the hot water just tastes like hot water, then the temperature of the water has probably become too high (that will make coffee tastes more bitter). If this is the problem, there's probably no fix (just make sure you fill the reservoir with cold, not hot, water).

Why are some coffee's more bitter than others?

There are several factors resulting in a bitterer cup of coffee:

The bean - Robusta beans are more bitter than Arabica

Roasting - darker roasts are generally more bitter

Brewing method - espresso tends to taste more bitter

Ran descale program and coffee still tastes funny (bitter)

If you are using a Claris filter, please remove this from the watertank. The descaling agent will clog the filter and make the water taste bad. After descaling, also be sure to rinse the watertank so there`s no resedue of the solvent left in the tank.

However, bitter taste on the coffe usually is related to the coffee side; Try to run a cleaning program. And check grinder settings. If the powder is to fine, it will increase the contact time, and that will make the coffee bitter. My advise is to clean the machine and experiment a little with the grinder settings.

Good luck!

What does the coffee produced taste like, is it bitter and watery, is there any creama on the espresso shot. Try adjusting the grind and the coffee level, maybe a little coarser.

Sudden low espresso quality

Have you been using the cleaning tabs regularly? If not, that is the first step. Second, if the time for brewing is too long then it goes bitter quickly. I time shots at about 11 seconds and add hot water after that. If you take taste tests for longer periods you can tell where it goes bad quickly and adjust the timer to stop at the right spot. Maybe timing changed. Have you had the wiring recall? If not, call Capresso and see if they'll still recall for free and they will also offer and exchange or full repair of existing unit.

Soggy Pucks & Portafilter retains water Saeco Via Veneto

It sounds like you are short on water due to a blockage somewhere...either in the flowmeter or the group head. You might also have a faulty pump, and you're not getting enough pressure during the shot. If you're not getting crema, then it's most likely pressure related...shots will also have a burnt smell and very bitter taste.
