To the best of my knowledge, you need to run a Windows virtual PC with the unit installed to that virtual PC or a second computer running Windows to get the Scan functions. For the virtual computer option, you will need a licensed version of Windows, the Windows version of the drivers from the above link and a program like Parallels.
click on the hp director icon on the desk top or access it from start ?all programs?hp?hp director then in the hp director click on settings after which you will get the drop down menu ,select fax settings and setup and then click fax log. This is how you can access fax log and then you cal calso receive and send ..
Kindly install the scanner software for printer..You just re install the driver software cd it will automatically install the missing components. Which is contains the hp director software. Which shows the scanning option For normal scanning you can choose the option of Scanners and Cameras wizard in control panel. But it is better if you have software disk of printer because it contains more option. for fax Go to menu option and choose the option fax and set the parameter like auto receive or manual set the ring auto answer mode after certain ring. If it is in auto receiving mode it will receive the fax after the ring which you set. Make sure the phone wire which you insert in fax machine getting proper dial tone and getting out going calling facility. Have a nice day and do not forget to rate please...!
If you are faxing directly from the flatbed then you can usually send a cover sheet by choosing to start the fax from the office director(on your "computer desktop".
There is a check box for sending with a cover sheet.
You should have recieved software with the printer to do this, Look in the Hewlett-packard folder in the programs menu. It might be listed as HP Director. From there you should choose scan to as the option, one of the choices should be "to Fax".
when you installed did you get the fax setup wizard during the installation. If not, you can get it by opening hp solution center-> settings-> fax settings-> fax setup wizard. You can have the HP solution center icon in the desktop or try with hp Director.
if not you can look at the
hard-copy user guide walks you through all the setup variations, depending on what type of line you have, what components (answering machine, for example), and how you want to handle incoming calls and faxes.
Are you able to print? I suspect so. If not your probably looking at a bad cable or corrupt windows drivers.
The director software uses it's own system to talk to the printer via scan / fax though printing is controlled by windows itself. Since scan and fax are the same function to the printer, essentially i would start by re-installing the director software.
1. Remove it via add/remove programs, don't reinstall over. It may work but you'll likely just waste time, you want all it's files gone and replaced with new ones.
2. If that has no effect remove the printer from Control Panel > Printers. Also remove the scanner device from Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager >
3. Reboot, windows doesn't really remove things till you shut it off.
4. Install the director software again, hook up the printer when asked.
If you can print at all communciation with the device is perfectly fine from a hardware perspective.
If you can fax without the computer then your scanner and such is fine from a hardwware perspective.
So your problem is simple software, either windows devices install or hp director. Both simple to remove and re-input.
