Use the gaping card inside the box the coil came in! Or a business card. Thats all you need.

What is the correct gap between the magneto core and magnet?

The gap is .010. You can also use a card to gap the coil and after you tighten the coil and remove the card turn the flywheel by hand one revolution to make sure the magnet does not rub on the flywheel.

Why my 6.5 craftman eager-1 has no spark

Check the engine stop wire where it connects to the carb mounting plate. make sure it is not shorted to ground. Remove the top cover from the engine and check the flywheel to magneto air gap, it should be about .020 of an inch, this is about the thickness of a matchbook cover. Also check the spark plug wire and the connections, make sure they are clean and tight. The magneto is the y shaped piece behind the flywheel. Remove the flywheel holdown nut and washer and make sure the notch in the flywheel and in the crankshaft are across from each other. If they are not, you will need to remove the flywheel, and replace the aluminum key that goes there. The notches need to be aligned for the ignition timing to be correct. I hope this helps, good luck. Dan

Toro with briggs and straton, I replaced two coils already and still have no spark! is it possible I got two bad coils? what else could it be?

More likely that you have rust on the magnetic strips on the flywheel, and/or on the legs of the coil/magneto, sand the legs of the coil until they shine, then sand the strips on the flywheel. Reinstall the coil and make sure to set the proper gap, this can be done by cutting a strip from a greeting card to use as a gauge.

Lawn mower missing with new plug and 10% ethanol gasoline

small engines are not keen on ethanol. Some won't do E85 either.
Try to find straight gas. see if that helps. if your mower is older you may have to set the magneto gap. put a business card between magnet(on flywheel) and the "E" coil. Loosen screws the magnet will pull the coil against the flywheel. Tighten those screws and that's it.
Please get back if problems persist. we want to help.

I HAVE NO SPARK ON MY BRIGGS AND STRATON MOTOR

Try this locate your coil / magneto and disconnect the kill "shut off wire " and try to start if it starts your switch may be bad or wire broken..if still no spark using a rubber handled pliers ...Pull your plug wire and place a screwdriver or similar metal piece and in the plug wire now bring the screw driver close to the engine block or Frame if spark it is your plug..if not your coil needs replaced...not a hard job just use a business card to set clearance on your coil..good luck

What is the gap between flywheel and magneto on a mower. I have a Craftman 6.75 hp mower and the magnets were rusty. I sandpapered them and was wondering what the gap should be

If you know the model number of it, this chart will surely tell you. I'm assuming it is probably a Briggs and Stratton engine. The air gaps vary say between .006" and .020" . Most of the time, on smaller engines like yours, .010" is suitable and works well. Here is the chart for All Briggs engine models. I use a business card to adjust because a feeler gauge sticks to the magnets.
Look in the third column from the left under armature air gap.

What is the magneto gap for a 6HP Briggs & Stratton 12H802 series engine?

Briggs lists it as .006 - .010 on this 6 HP L-head engine. The .010 width can easily be attained by using a standard sized business card as a feeler gauge (and it doesn't stick to the magnets in the flywheel). I double up the card, loosen the coil and let the magnets in the flywheel draw the pickup legs in until they press on the card, tighten up the retaining screws (threadlocker is optional) and your air gap is set.

It all depends on the model of engine. If it is a twin engine doesn't it have two magnetos.Very unusual for both to go bad It will depend on the type of ignition(points or solid state) The wire going to the magneto could be the kill switch (kills when grounded) Disconnect it and see if you get spark. IF so then it is in your safety/ignition circuit. If you replace magneto usually the gap is .008-.012

gap from coil to flywheel is .010. if you've replaced coil, points and condenser with no spark i would try replacing the coil and points with an magnetron kit or a coil that allows for the elimination of points.
