Resetting Router to default Is it really possible (suggested by one of your techs on here in the past) that if you don't remember the pword/ username on your router you can sometimes reset the router to defaults, thereby also resetting the password and user name to the default user name and pword when the unit is first setup the 1st time (factory condition by downloading the correct upgrade from the manuf's site to your desktop, then executing the patch while actually being connected wirelessly to the network? (no dumb comments please, I know about reset button on back of router) Thank you.

That is right. When you use the reset option, it brings the router to a factory default, that is username, password and encryption type is brought back to original options.Hope this helps.

I would like you to be more specific, by downloading the patch for the firmware upgrade for the router model, if I run that file by saving in to desktop then running it while Being Connected to the Wifi network (No Ethernet Cable Used) what are the chances of the router being set back to defaults w username +pwd login thereby being reset to factory defaults?
Thanks for your rapid response, I will wait for your reply.

It is best to upgrade firmware when connected via a wired connection to the router. There is no guarantee that it will not reset the username and password, so it is best to be ready to set it up again via the router settings control panel.

There is no guarantee that it will not reset the username and password

You meant there is no guarantee It Will Work will being connected Wirelessly w no cable to the router?

  • heeman mohun Jul 29, 2010

I mean that the username, password and encryption may revert back to original factory settings after a firmware update. It is a good practice to update the router while it is connected via a wired connection, this will ensure there is no interruption to firmware update. Bear in mind that a wireless connection may lose connection at any time which could result to an unusable router.I hope I have answered your question this time.

I want to know how to turn off the fire wall on the router. I don't remember the router password or how to find it.

If you don't remember the password it sounds like it may be possible you did not change the defaults on your router when you set it up. Google the manufacturer and default password. Should be plenty to point you in right direction. If you did set up a more secure user and password. The information you find in the search should get you what you need to reset router to factory settings and start over. Depending on the router How to turn FW off could vary. If it's a home router I'd suggest leaving it on and adding sites you may be having difficulty with to trusted sites. Reset instructions should be as easy as a second search. Either way you should be able to navigate to your routers firewall settings on the console once you can log in.

I am unable to connect my nextbook to my wireless network. I get the message that I am using the wrong password even though I am using the pword I thought I programmed do I check the pword?

In order to get your router back to the original settings, you must push in the reset button (usually on the back of the router) for somewhere between 10 and 30 seconds depending on the router. You may need a pin or something small to push in the button, because it can be recessed. Once you have reset the router, the username and password will be changed to the defaults, admin and password, respectively. One thing you must remember is that resetting the router will change all of the router settings back to the factory settings. This means you will lose all of the changes you made since you got the router. Make sure to write down any things you've changed, so you can change them back after the reset. Also, I recommend updating to the latest firmware after the reset.

I forgot my password. Can you assist?

In the worst case if u really do not remember your password, then the best way is to reset your router to it factory default configuration setting. To do this, you must use the Default Reset button on the rear panel of the router:
1) Press and hold the Default Reset button until the power light blinks on (about 10 seconds).
2) Release the Default Reset button and wait for the router to reboot.
If the router fails to restart or the power light continues to blink or turns solid amber, the unit
may be defective.

Forgotten network key to log on to secured wireless g router

Password recovery isn't really possible. Pushing the rest button in the back for a few seconds will reset the router to factory defaults. You will need to reset all the wireless security and such so best to do this with a pc connected directly to it. Default IP for it if you have changed it is
