Question about Gateway P-6860FX Notebook

1 Answer

I have a gateway p-6860fx laptop and the bearings went out on the vga fan. i have been looking to replace the fan or replace the fan and heatsync. i have had no luck and my only option was to use bestbuy and they have to ship the computer elsewhere and charge me like $300. i am looking for a cheaper way to replace the fan. if i can find a part i can replace it myself but i have had no luck finding a replacement part.

SOURCE: Gateway Laptop

This is either an operating system failure or hard drive failure. Start by reloading a fresh operating system (Vista) with your recovery or operating system disc. If you have any problems during or after the install, then it's the hard drive and will need to be replaced.

Sometimes the device driver gets uninstalled for several reasons.Go online to "Windows Update " and let "Windows Update install a new driver.
If "Windows Update" does'nt fix it, the give me your computer model number, and I'll get the driver for you.

SOURCE: I have a Gateway MT6705 Laptop. The battery will

I am sorry you are having to deal with such a frustrating issue. If you have replaced the power supply and the battery, you have already spent around $200. or more bucks only to have the same problem persist.

Probably the single-most vulnerable part of your laptop is the AC jack where your power supply interfaces with the laptop. Stress and fatigue cause power issues I see in every brand of laptop on a regular basis.

The good news is the part will only cost you between $20-30 bucks. The bad news is that unless you have a low-temp soldering iron and are experienced with soldering components on a circuit board, the repair will cost you around another $100.00. Its a fairly easy and quick repair with the right experience and tools. You will want to get your hands on service manual before disassembling your computer.

There is no additional circuitry on the motherboard you can or would want to bother replacing. Hope this helps FixYa! Please Rate up this solution if you find it helpful.

SOURCE: My laptop screen went very

Hi josue fernan...
You need to see if your laptop lcd screen is faulty and/or the lcd inverer is faulty.
1....Test the lcd screen:
Hook your laptop to an outside monitor and then start your laptop normally...if the picture on the external monitor is good, then your lcd screen is bad.
2....Backlight Faulty: If the monitor is still as dark like your lcd screen on the laptop then it could be the backlight that is faulty.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

Sounds like a bad fan bearing over the processor. Your Gateway is actually made by ACER. They are a very good brand, but are known for fan problems in their laptops. Here is a video of how to properly disassemble your laptop: http://youtu.be/CKVljMrPmCE. Just be sure to wear an anti-static wristband or static from your hands can short-circuit your motherboard. Also, if the fan stops working completely before you get it fixed, turn it off ASAP or your PC will burn up. You can find a replacement fan here: https://www.google.com/search?q=Gateway+NE56R10u&rlz=1C1PRFB_enUS510US510&oq=Gateway+NE56R10u&aqs=chrome..69i57.33076900j0j7&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=Gateway+NE56R10u+fan+problems&safe=off&tbm=shop. Good luck.

The connector with 3 rows on it sounds like a VGA out connector. Since that is for video it can't be connected with a game port.
