Question about Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 Graphic Card

1 Answer

Monitor turns on briefly then off

Dear Tech Support,

I hope someone can help me out because the guys at my local geek squad couldn't figure out the answer :(. My dell monitor will turn on only briefly during the windows startup and then turn off. The computer meanwhile is still running. This occurred after windows did one of those automatic updates. My monitor works just fine with another computer hooked up to it so it's not the monitor. When the guys at geek squad hooked it up to their monitor the same problem recurred. I have a strong feeling it has to do with the driver. I have the NVIDIA Geforce FX 5200 and running windows xp. I have tried the following so far without much success. Uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it and the problem still recurs. The only time the monitor will turn on is on safe mode and also when I delete the driver and restart the computer and it uses the generic vga mode. However, after it detects my graphics card and installs the driver again, the problem recurs. I have a Dell Dimension 8300. If I can get this to work, the geek squad guy told me to come back to share the solution lol. Thanks for all your help.

I am having a similar problem with my notebook from Toshiba. I spent all day on the phone or at the local store for other reasons - and the only thing the Geek squad told me was they can send it out and have it looked at which would take about a week. Oh and the cost could be as high as $300!!!

The screen on my laptop isn't working - but if I hook my desk top monitor to it there is no problem. Very confused about it all.

Both of you need to do a complete over write restore and reprogram to recover the video card then install an older video driver program with the ability to lock out all updates. lala linda

I had a custom built computer that was damaged in shipping: P55A-UD4, i7 860, ATI HD 5870, 8GB ram, Windows 64 bit, 120GB SSD running 3 monitors (2x20" 5:4, 24" 16:10). It would start-up but fail...

With everything you have i would look at power supply and see if you have enough power supply to operate video card motherboard etc.
Power supply could be overloaded and not able to operate video card correctly.
Which could cause issues with trying to run 2 or 3 monitors

My BFG tech 9800gt video card keeps freezing for a short while and then resumes game. It freezes with any game that is graphically intensive. Please can you tell me how to resolve this, thanks, Craig

You can try lowering your resolution size. Graphic intensive games will tax your monitor pretty hard, lowering the resolution helps the monitor to cope with what is being thrown at it.

I hope this helps you out and if it does please leave me a YES that I did try and assist you. Thank you.

The Monitor Does Not Open Using My New Video Card

That is clear indication that you have a bad graphics card. Try to look for a pencil eraser and use it to clean the gold pins on your graphics card. I hope this helps. If your card still doesn't work, its probably defective.

Radeon x1650 pro graphics card isn't working correctly

Usually that happens only when the card isn't well seated on the slot, or damaged. I guess you've already checked the card is well seated and pushed into the slot. If you had, then the card can be damaged, probably from static or maybe even it has overheated when it worked and something broke, I'm sorry to tell.

Hi,

before doing anything.. What do you mean you get no blank monitor? Do you see anything at all? Do you see the POST running? Also, when you put in the AGP, did you plug your monitor into the new card? Or are you trying to boot from the old intergrated one?

You can change your graphics input in the BIOS from integrated to AGP (after putting in the new card). But, It should pick it up fine without changing it. And if it doesn't work after doing so, your motherboard may keep the settings, and then a deeper problem arises..
