Question about PC Desktops

INSTALLATION PROBLEM Hi, my name is Jimmy, from Guatemala City, the computer is a COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1610NX, I installed XP UE on this computer but now the problem is that I'm trying to install an antivirus and other kind of software but, it seems that it is having some problems, because I saw a message that said that the installation ended prematurely due to an error; I tried several times but I still have the same message. The same situation occurs when I try to install Nero, and that without mentioning that I have problems with sound card. The language of the OS is spanish, so I'm not using the exact words. What do you recommend?

I think you're doing it right, but are not logged in as an administrator, so you get errors like this. If you log in as an administrator and check the logs, you might see a reason listed for denying the installer program.

I recommend Linux, but you can just use an administrator account for installing major things like antivirus, drivers, Nero, etc. on WinXP and possibly be happy. It sounds like you know some good practices, not running as administrator all the time.

Okay... I was fixing a computer (Compaq Presario SR1610NX) for a friend. It was the infamous XP mup.sys freeze-up, so I went to the default settings in BIOS, and took out some unused 56k modems. However,...

are you sure that is the default. I have never seen that in 20 years. Open it up and clear the cmos, could be a little glitchy when you reset it. Use the jumpers on the motherboard, if it does not have jumpers remove the cmos battery and reinsert it upside down. Power up the computer. Reverse the previous steps.

SM BUS CONTROLLER FOR COMPAQ PRESARIO SR1610NX

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, I think you will be pleasantly surprised as usually one is able to download, by model number, Customer Instruction Manuals, list of Dealers and Driver downloads as required.

Just Google the manufacturer's name and follow the links. Make certain you are directed to the manufacturer's web site as some search engines direct you to other sites and they charge for the information that is normally free of charge.

I hope this helps.

My PC won't start? every time i start it the fan just spins fast and loud and nothing happens, the screen doesn't show. this happened when i took the PC apart. it a Compaq presario sr1610nx

Initially test the monitor in another pc, if display available use the monitor in Compaq presario sr1610nx. Load to BIOS by restarting and tapping F1, if the display available, the computer is ok. restart and tap F8, if the advanced boot option screen comes up, the software is ok.
Restart the computer and tap F10 and proceed with a destructive recovery to reload the operating system on the computer
