The most common problem that will cause that in this set is the flyback transformer. Often times when it goes out it will take out the horizontal output transistor (h.o.t.) Of course it is impossible to tell for sure w/ out checking some components and doing some tests first, but most of these that we have worked on has been a bad flyback and shorted h.o.t. The flyback would probably cost between $20 - $30 and the transistor would just be a few dollars. Most repair shops would get between $100 - $150 to replace these parts, if that is indeed the problem.

We heard a "pop" noise

The pop noise could be a capacitor poping its top up.This is a common problem to most TV sets today. Usually located at the power supply board.Once this parts give up it usually shorts the circuit and blows a fuse.Replacements of these parts mentioned will often remedy the problem.Flashing power indicators indicate a problem. If you have the chance of counting how many the blinks are I could have told you the problems code are and the source of the problem.

Without investigation it is impossible to know what failed. There are a number of boards in that set where there is fairly high current used. It is possible that some components have failed.

The Panasonic service rep would service the set by swapping out the failed modules. If the set is an older model the modules may no longer be available. You can take the set in for an estimate to see if the parts are available, and to see if the set is worth to service.
