Question about Sony RDR-VX530 DVD Recorder/VCR

1 Answer

My Sony RDR-VX350 will not play or eject a VHS tape. I took the cover off and it appears that a gear is broken. Wher can I get a replacement gear.

Please recheck model number as it could be RDR-VX530 because RDR-VX350 seems incomplete/ incorrect model number.
Let me know exact model number to provide you info.
Thanks.

    Hi again,
I need to know what gear you see is broken. Below are two exploded views of VHS Mechanism in your combo player, let me know number of gear marked in images to find out its part number and availability.

Unfortunitely the gear that is broken is not numbered in your diagrams. In the top diagram there is a small moter on the top right that has a worm gear that drives the broken gear that then drives a bigger gear. On closer examintation it looks like the two gears cannot be replaced because they look like they are rivited in place. Is this planned obsolesence? No wonder Sony want $140.00 to repair this! Do you have any suggestions?

Alright, whatever gear is damaged, complete VHS mechanism will be replaced in unit and part number is as follows:
    988510119........ ASSY DECK
You need to put Video Head Assembly from broken mechanism to new one.
Individual parts of mechanism are not available.
    Thanks.

Unplug from wall outlet - find the wheel that ejects the tape when you slowly turn it. It's usually on the right side when the cover is open. Avoid touching any metal parts.

Vhs is stuck in machine. Won't play and won't eject.

There are any number of reasons why it won't play. The loading basket is jammed, the video tape has got tangled up in the mechanical section of the vcr or the loading gears are stripped. Unplug machine and remove top, [screws side and back] if the tape is spewed carefully remove by cutting it and clean tape particles, for any other problem have a technician check it out.

Vcr jams on eject

What do you mean 'Tape crunches" Do you mean that there is tape slack, which then crunches when Tape is lifted during Eject? If that is the case, then the Supply Reel Roller Brake is bad. it is a Felt Pad, which needs replacing. If the entire eject operation is wonky, or if it's timing is bad, then I suspect that One of the eject Gears (On either side of the Mechanism) is damaged and needs to be replaced. One question, i assume that you are able to eject the Tape eventually, and so - Does the Tape Load into the VCR properly, when you insert it into the machine? This will help me in giving you a better diagnosis.
