Yesterday morning everything was fine - now today the Wii gives an error message whenever I go to the game channel. I've disconected power and reset a number of times to no avail. What to do - we bought the Wii when it first came out 2 years ago.

Make sure you have inserted the disk properly. Remember: shiny side facing left. If that does not work, send the wii back to Nintendo for repair.

I stay in India and bought a wii console from Singapore . Recently bought Mariokart game ( with Wheel ) from Dubai duty free . The wii console cannot read the disc - what can i do to make it work ?

If the disk is dirty, you may try to clean it. Rub a small amount of toothpaste gel onto the disk with your fingers, rinse with luke warm water, and dry thoroughly before putting back into your Wii.
Verify the problem isn't with the Wii itself. Make sure that the Wii you purchased will play a different game. (Wii Sports would work fine.)
If the game disk is a pirated or burned copy your Wii has to be modified to read those disks.

When disk is installed the Wii Menu comes up but the disk is spinning and does not show the name of the disk in console.

What kind of disk is it? If it's a game then the disk might be damaged, meaning you'd have to get a new one.

It could also mean the disk drive in your Wii is broken. If other game disks work it should be fine, though.

If it's a DVD or a music CD, it's the same story - the disk must be damaged, or it's possible it's a format the Wii can't read, in which case there's nothing you can do.

If it's a disk you burned yourself, your Wii probably refuses to read it. Nintendo has restrictions on what kind of disks the Wii will read to prevent piracy.

Wii will not read any disks

Nintendo has a great customer service. Just call, and if it is something they can help you fix over the phone, they will. Otherwise you might have to send it in and they will replace the disk drive and it should work after that.

My wii fit disk wont work

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. Unable to start games

We have this exact same problem right out of the box yesterday. Just talked to Nintendo today and they are now sending another Wii which we should get in 3-4 buisness days. As long as you are putting the disk in the correct way and disk is clean and you tried on multiple disks, really nothing else can be done it seems. Had bought at target so wanted to exchange but they are out of them and do not know when they will get them, so this is fastest way.
