This is due to a faulty ribbon cable which runs from the bottom half of the ds to the top half via the hinge. Unfortunately the only way to solve this is to purchase a new top lcd screen :(

Taking cover off nintendo ds lite

Are you talking about the back cover or front cover?
Either way, before starting you are going to need two things: A tri-wing screwdriver and a Philips screwdriver.

To remove the BOTTOM COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the screws and remove the screws. 001e10e1-317e-4bb5-97cd-230a82f77aaf.jpg
Then, carefully pry the back off, revealing the motherboard inside.

To remove the TOP COVER, you must take off the stickers covering the four screws in the corners of the INSIDE top screen. Unscrew them and gently push the inside top screen down until its about half a centimeter apart from it's backside. Then pull the backside off and you have it open.

If you wanted to open the DS completely, like have it in half, you should first open the BOTTOM COVER and remove the motherboard after disconnecting it from everything attached to it. Then follow the steps given for removing the TOP COVER and slide the ribbon and cables sticking through from the TOP to the BOTTOM back to the TOP so that they are not sticking through and won't be damaged when you take the DS apart. Then unscrew the power light and voila! The DS should be separated.

My Nintendo ds lites screen is not working i dont know why? the coulour is white on the top screen and it has white lines all over it but the bottom screen is fine. Please i need help may you please give...

Hello.

There is a problem with the connection of your top screen. Try bending it A BIT backward or forward until you get a display. BUT that is just a "temporary solution". You will eventually need to bring it to a service center and if it is badly damaged, they will replace the top screen.

How to replace the mic in a nintendo ds?

first you need to take off the back of the ds. Then you will need to unplug the white wire it snaps on and off. After that you will need to take opart the top to get to the mic.the four screws for the top are on top and the bottom of the speakers under those little squares. To get the top apart slid the back of the top up 1/8 of an inch then you can pull apart.the mic is just under the top screen so push the top screen through so you can get the mic out slowly pull the wire out and put the new one in the same way you took the old one out.when taking the back off the bottom start away from the on off switch you can get a tri wing screwdriver on ebay.

The top screen on my ds lite keeps flickering lines. this gets worse the longer it's on for but it does seem to help if i play while on charge or close and re-open the ds. I'm not sure what needs replacing...

It might be worth checking the ribbon cable for the top screen is tight in the socket on the main board, this could explain why the screen gets back to normal when you close the ds then reopen. The ribbon cable for the top screen is in the hinge on the left side of the ds when open, the only way to check this is to take the back of the ds, to do this you will need a small philips screw driver and a tri-wing screw driver which you can get of ebay quite cheap. The worst possible fault is the top screen is faulty and needs to be changed, if you do a search in youtube you will find videos on how to do this, they are good and quite detailed. hope this helps.

White screen

Which screen is white? I'm assuming it's your top screen. Has there been any drops lately? Any excessive bending of the hinges? If so, your cable has gone bad and its time to have your top lcd replaced.

Look around online to find out how to replace this yourself, or I would recommend a shop.. Since you will have to solder the speakers from the old one to the new one.

My top screen wont work

Your ribbon cable may be damaged or it might have come loose from the board. The LCD might also be bad. Either way the system would have to be taken apart and this is an undertaking on the DS. If it's under warrenty call Nintendo and have them replace it. If not you'll want to find a repair center. I've done these repairs many of times and unless you really know what you're doing with the DS it's easy to break it much worse than it started out. There are plenty of these on ebay where people have simply made it worse.

Nintendo ds lite, green light on but not the screens

I had the Same problem on my wifes DS.  First problem was that it kept swithing itself off, so sent it to Nintendo for repair.  Within a week it was broken again.

This time the green light was coming on, but no sound and no sign of life in the screens.

Well, I'd already had to pay nintendo for the first fix (different region, no warranty, apparrently).  So I thought seeing as it's out of warranty anyway, why not open it up and have a look.

To open it you need specailist tools, I don't recommend it if you've never done anything like it before.

Anyways, the bios chip was no longer connected to the main PCB.  I simply plugged it back in and added some slips of post it note to stop it coming off again.

You can see in the picture, the chip easily plugs back onto that white clip on the board.

Once it was back on. the DS has been working fine.
