Question about Apple MacBook Power Inverter Car Adapter

1 Answer

I have a MacBook Pro with an 85W Mag Safe Power Adapter and our puppy chewed off the magnetic plug from the cord. The plug itself is still OK but need to solder the wire back onto the plug if possible. I pulled the plastic rectangular cap off the plug but old wire piece is still under another piece of plastic covering. Is there a way to get in there without destroying the magnetic plug or is this a lost cause? Apple wants $79.00 for a new adapter which is a little high. Please advise. Thanks, Ray McCarthy

You could try and find a Mag Safe adapter that is not working and reconnect that cord onto the end of your cord. That is if you find one? I know its a long shot but I am sure its cheaper . Good luck.

Yes, I have used it this way.
It takes MUCH longer to charge the battery, especially if you are working on the machine with hard drive and cd drive spinning etc.
Also, if you run the battery out, it can take several minutes to get the machine back running after you reconnect the charger.
It was quite a relief to finally get an 85W charger, but your 60W will work fine.

Can I replace the jack that my puppy chewed off

The puppy probably chewed off the plug. If the plug was molded on, it may be more practical to replace the entire cord assembly.

My puppy has just chewed the sealed plug off my Rowenta Master. Is it safe to wire up a basic new plug? Bit worried about the water/electric combo. Puppy is fine! Thanks.

The cord that comes with the DG980 is mighty handy because it is nice and long. I would just get a brand new one, You do not want loved ones to be around a "modified" cord. JMHO :o)

How to replace electrical cord on Dyson ball vacuum cleaner. Our puppy chewed it.

Depending on where it has been chewed, you may not need to replace the whole of your cord. Ask your local electrical supplier, or possibly somewhere like B & Q, if they have an 'inline' plug and socket to repair your existing cord.this would resemble the type of plug and socket used to connectd the power chord to a lawnmower, except you would not be buying the sealed type. Then you could simply cut out the chewed part of your ccord, and fit the two new ends, one the plug and the other the socket. It is no more difficlt than fitting a new domestic 13 amp plug on a cable. It is also a safe but much cheaper solution, so you should save money too.

Repaired cord is not working

make sure the plug is wired correctly .. the colors of wires depend on what country it came from .. in the US it would have a black, white and green wire ... the black wire would be connnected to the small flat prong (thats the AC hot wire) .. the white wire would be connected to the wide flat prong (thats AC return) and the green wire would go to the round grouund connection .. if these are not wired correctly then it may not work and could be dangerous .. have it checked by anyone that is familiar with electronics .. make sure the pup didnt chew another spot on the wire ... ..

My printer wont turn on

Dear Sir,

If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
  1. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working wall outlet, and that it's properly connected to the power adapter. (To check if the wall socket is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.)
  2. Make sure that the power adapter is properly connected to the power port on the back of the computer.
  3. Disconnect all accessories that are plugged into the computer, such as a printer, hub, or iPod.
  4. Reset the computer's PMU, SMC, or PRAM. Refer to the instructions for your model:
  5. Try plugging a different power cord into the computer (if you have a working one available). If the computer starts up, replace the old power cord.
  6. If the computer uses a power adapter, try connecting a different power adapter to the computer (if you have a working one available). If the computer starts up, replace the old power adapter. (Computers that use a power adapter include MacBook, MacBook Pro, iBooks, PowerBooks, Power Mac G4 Cube, and Mac mini.)
  7. If you tried all of the steps above and the computer still won't turn on, contact Apple technical support (1-800-APL-CARE in the U.S.) or take your computer to the nearest Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using

Macbook battery level shows fully charged at 83 percent instead of 100 percent. Is this a power inverter problem? It's a first generation Macbook

Most likely this is because you are loosing cells in your battery; the same ageing process that happens to us all. I'm guessing that in System Profiler under Battery it says 100-200 cycles or more. You cannot do anything to stop or reverse this. To prolong the life of your battery, once you unplug your power cable, keep it unplugged until (a bit after) it asks for you to put it in, and then leave it there until fully charged.

My puppy chewed the electric cord! Can i buy a replacement? Model GGR200RDDS

This should be an obvious one. If the cord is attached HARD, meaning you can't remove it, you have to buy a new unit. punish your puppy as you see fit. If the cord is removeable, meaning there is some sort of lock-in plug end to the cord to the cooking unit, OR a magnetic lock, you can most likely buy a new one. just call up the number for sales that should be printed on your owners manual somewhere. And if you tell me its not there, look harder. every company wants a sale. and you know the company name anyway. GEORGE FORMAN GRILL. Also you can splice the cable if its a chew in the middle. it takes some electrical know-how, but if a puppy chews in the middle, a pair of wire nuts and some electrical tape fixes it. talk to people in the know.
