Need to reset to factory defaults

All of a sudden my laptop slowed down (a lot) now it won't even boot up regularly. I tried running my virus program and it just shut down the computer entirely. I want to put it back to the factory settings but I don't know how. Can anyone tell me how to do this, please?

Hi,

Disable Boot Booster

  • The option Boost Booster will remove the bios screen at startup Netbookand this option is enabled by default on the purchase.
  • Turn so your Netbook normally, and immediately press the F2 key until you reach the Setup Utility, which allows access to the bios options, including Boost Booster.
  • Using the arrow keys, move to the Boot tab, then click the Boot Booster option. Press the Enter key, then turn the option to Disabled to disable it.
  • Go to the last tab, Exit, and take Exit and save changes.

Restore from the Recovery Partition
  • Start your Netbook and press the F9 key on your keyboard until you see a loading screen.
  • The restoration program prepares the files needed for the operation.
  • A message appears asking if you want to perform the operation, you will lose all files on your machine.
  • Confirm by clicking √.
  • The restore process is done automatically , without any human intervention.
  • At the end of the restoration, the machine will reboot on its own, and make configurations.
  • A restart is performed again, and you're on the setup process of Windows , same as the first boot after buying the Netbook.

Regards.

Restart your computer. Press F9 key immediately when the ASUS logo appears. This will start the recovery procedure, including the installation of all the drivers and utilities. Follow the instructions. Your computer will be restored to the factory settings.
1. Recover windows to first partition only. this option will delete only the first partition, allowing you to keep other partitions, and create a new system partition as drive "c". 2. Recover windows to entire HD. This option will delete all partitions from your hard disk drive and create a new system partition as drive "C". 3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partition. This option will delete all partitions from your hard drive and create two new partitions "C" (60%) and "D" (40%).

Usually, the brand new ASUS notebook computer hard disk is with 2 partitions. So, it is suggested that you select “3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partitions”.

Thanks for using Fixya

The slow reason may be one or more problems acting together. The problem nowadays is that it is very difficult and time consuming to monitor and take care of your Lenovo PC. Even experienced users find it hard to perform such tasks on regular basis because you might need to prepare a huge amount of time and energy to deal with each issue separately.

If you want to fix the problems more efficiently, try the Lenovo speed up program, available here.

Could be a virus - download a program called hitman pro here: http://download.cnet.com/Hitman-Pro-3-32-bit/3000-2239_4-10895604.html and run it, that should free you of any viruses, if the problem persists try reinstalling explorer and if that doesn't solve it try using the recovery partition on boot up and try repairing.

Slow xpwindows laptop

if you dont knwo whats going on to your laptop then you should just let someone reformat it or restore it to factory default settings if it has that option.

it probably has lots of startups in your registry or in other words, lots of trash (files that are installed that you dont even use.).

How do you reset laptops because my toshiba laptop is slower then before

One reason why laptops, and other computers slow down is because of a malware inside. Virus, worms, spyware etc. You can also twic your laptop by clicking control panel then choose to defragment it. You can also free up disk space. You can also run the anti virus, and scan for any malware. Do a complete scan if you do. I hope you have a working anti virus, and not expired. You can also download a completely free antivirus called AVG anti virus. It will at least give a basic protection untill you decide to purchase one. Good luck.

I have upgraded my ram fron 1gb to 4gb but my laptop still runs slow. how can i make it faster

What processor is it? There are heaps of things you can do to make it run fast. Don't have lots of things on the desktop, shortcuts are ok, but not files. Defrag it regularly, run virus scans. Go start run type "msconfig"go to startup. Make sure there aren't lots of programs running which aren't needed. Delete your temp folder.

Hi! I have previously had problems with AntiVirus (Norton once) being disabled by a virus which made it hard to start it going again. There are a lot of viruses do not show up on Norton,. You should install a spyware catcher such as Spyware Doctor. I have Stopzilla, (anti-spyware) and cannot yet comment about its helpfulness. They are not free but cost a lot less than Norton. A lot of people prefer AVG Grisoft Free as their Antivirus prpgram but we all need an anti spyware program !Because I get mainly spywares, and rarely viruses, I feel that Norton may be getting obsolete and not providing sufficient protection. I call them all, loosely speaking viruses

Your computer has crashed due to what i will call loosely a virus, it could be spyware trojan etc.

CLOSING PROGRAMS IN TASK MANAGER
What I'd do first it to go back to your task manager, and try to end the
processes and programs that you see running.
Can you see on topbar of task manager, there is a choice "programs" and one "processes".
See the running programs and processes, do you recognize any names there?
The virus may be one of the processes running there. Dont end them unless you know
what you are doing
End the programs you see running there. Try to do so slowly.one by one.
Things should get better once you have closed a lot of programs.
Its a very slow process and you need patience

If that does not work, you will need to restore to older settings and your
files and docs stored on hard drive will not get lost

SOFT RESET/SYSTEM RESTORE
You need to do a system restore.
How you do that depends on what make you have such as Dell, advent etc
Maybe you'll need to switch on, and while it is booting, press F12 or F10.
You will to check with the manufacturer how to do system restore. You can
find instruction manuals online etc.
Here your computer goes back to the way it was at a restore point created on a
previous restore date.

HARD RESET/RESTORE TO FACTORY SETTINGS
you probably wont need to do that. Your stored files and programs you have installed
will get wiped out.Unless they are super-important, let them go

Get back to me if you have more difficulties and i hope u found that to be of somehelp
