It could be either a driver or hardware problem. I would suggest you reinstall the driver, if that does not work then you would know it is a hardware problem where i would be bet you contact your manucturer for repair.

Turn on wifi on laptop without hardware switch

I think with all the drivers you installed, you did not install the drivers for the switches. I wonder if there will be any drivers for that around, but you could try with Acer.

Sure you did not install windows 8.1?

I have quite a few drivers missing or out of date on my acer aspire 2930 how do i update these?

Hi
First things first. Download all the drivers from the Acer support website. Open these one at a time on your machine. Now to make sure that the Windows drivers are all correct go to START, Run and type CMD. Once at the C prompt type SFC/scannow. Make sure you have your original Acer CD's handy but this process may find missing drivers and want to reinstall them. Good luck

My ACER laptop stopped recognizing wireless network and the switch to enable disable Wireless network is also not showing any light, and shows "No netwrok Device" when I press this button. Also DVD drive...

The "Acer ePM" (Power Management) program is probably outting your WIFI into hibernation, Make sure it shows the WIFI as on under "Start" "All Programs"

Most Acers use a form of Intel chipped IPN2220 Wireless card. If yours does, you use XP and your router is using WPA or WPA2 (TKIP or AES) security then you'll need to update the driver by searching for it manually using the Custom button (Hardware) in Windows update (instead of Express). This driver is not part of XP service pack 2 or 3. In my experience if you don't update to the newest common form of home wireless security (WPA2 AES) then the older formats seem to become unreliable in the way you describe
