Question about AEG Santo 3888 KG8 Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

The audio alarm was sounding this morning and the LED indicator for the fridge showed a high temperature and the freezer showed a low temperature. The freezer has since returned to -15 but the fridge is still at +14, both after activating the automatic control. Please advise.

The actual cooling comes from the freezer and makes it's way to the fridge. Wait another 12 hours and u will be all ok again. Joe.

How do I fix a buzzing sound in my fridge?

Fridge keeps beeping or buzzing: The following is for Frigidaire models but others can be addressed similarly.

Several Frigidaire refrigerator models have an electronic control panel on the freezer door the owner can use to adjust the internal temperature, dispense ice and water and receive notification about issues such as the need to replace a water filter. The refrigerators also emit a beep for various actions and as an occasional alarm. Determining what causes the beeps necessitates some troubleshooting.
Temperature Controls ·A Frigidaire refrigerator's display panel blinks when the control panel is touched to set temperature controls. After pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, press the arrow buttons within five seconds to increase or decrease the desired temperature. If you do not press the arrow buttons within five seconds after pressing "Freezer Temp" or "Refrigerator Temp" on the keypad, the refrigerator beeps to indicate the current setting will stay in place.

Door Open ·When you leave the refrigerator or freezer door open, the refrigerator beeps. Also, the "Door Ajar" indicator illuminates on the appliance's display panel. Shutting the door and pressing "Alarm Reset" stops the beeping and turns off the "Door Ajar" indicator light.
·The Frigidaire refrigerator has a control lock feature that prevents use of its control panel or dispensers when the unit is locked. When the control lock is active, a beep sounds when a keypad or dispenser is pressed. Release the control lock by pressing the "Control Lock" icon for three seconds. A beep will sound, and the icon's light will go out.
Power Reset ·A power reset is occasionally necessary if the Frigidaire refrigerator's control panel does not work normally or a reset function on the keypad does not work. A power reset involves disconnecting power to the refrigerator by unplugging its power cord from the electrical outlet, waiting 30 seconds and plugging the power cord back into the electrical outlet. When the control panel resets, a beep sounds. If the refrigerator beeps even after a power reset and the beeps' source is not known, contact Frigidaire.

Why my fridge freezer keeps beeping four hort beeps

Temperature alarm
If the temperature becomes too warm, an alarm will sound and the temperature display will flash. The temperature the appliance is set at will determine when the alarm is triggered.
The alarm will sound and the display will flash under the following conditions:

  • - whenevertoomuchwarmairflows into the appliance, for example when food is being loaded, re-arranged, or taken out.
  • - wheneverlargeamountsoffoodare being frozen at once.
  • - whenevertherehasbeenalengthy interruption of the power supply. Door alarm
If the appliance door is left open for longer than approx. 60 seconds, the alarm signal will sound.

Switching the alarm system ON
The alarm system is always active. It does not need to be switched on manually.
Switching the alarm OFF early
Once the set temperature has been reached in the freezer section, the alarm signal stops and the temperature display stops blinking. If the alarm signal bothers you, it can be switched off early.
^ Press the alarm off button. The alarm signal will stop. The temperature display will continue to blink until the set temperature has been reached. The display then stops blinking, and shows a steady reading. At this point, the alarm system is ready again if needed.

It sounds like a temperature sensor problem. On my RF265AABP model there is a control board located under a cover on the back of the refrigerator. There is a wiring diagram on that cover. Remove the cover if you have one, and locate the control board and power supply boards. If you have a voltmeter, check for +5V and +12V (on my model anyway) from the power supply board. If that is OK, then check the voltages on the temperature sensor wires. Mine are at the bottom of the board as shown in the photo. I have 5 temperature sensors, refrigerator (R), freezer (F), refrigerator defrost (R-DEF), freezer defrost (F-DEF), and Pantry (a temperature controlled drawer in the refrigerator). You may need to refer to your specific diagram to get the colors of wires, but it appears that the voltages should be somewhere between about 2 to 4 volts from each sensor to ground. I had a broken ice maker wire that resulted in a high reading, about 4.3 volts on the freezer sensor, so I assume high reading indicate an open sensor, and low reading indicate a shorted sensor. I am not sure where the refrigerator sensor is located. Repairing the broken wire restored the display to normal readings.

On my model the left gray wire is common, and the diagram should indicate color and a letter or so (R, F, R-DEF, F-DEF, Pantry) on my model.

Very common problem on that fridge and a easy fix: Replace the two big capacitors on the right side of the control PCB 1uF = 0,68uF 250V They lost their capacity causing bad uC supply and this strange LED blinking. Be aware that this blinking can be intermittent and the fridge appears to return to operation. But the uC suffer a lot of internal resets causing intermittent operation stops, low temperature and more not easy recognizable or strange mal functions. So, if You face that blinking normally the capacitors are gone. Some strange and intermittent behaviors of the fridge are also back routed to this PCB - Capacitor malfunction. So enjoy this 30min fix. The capacitors should not exceed US$2 in Your local electronic shop. If You don't want to spend the US$2 You can find the capacitors as a lucky guy in a old PC power supply.
For other more complex problems be aware that the controller board has a very nice and helpful self test option. You go in this mode holding the temperature select button of the refrigerator (not the freezer button) then switch the fridge on and stay on holding the temp button for more 10s. The self test sequence starts in the moment when You release the temp button.
LED 1: Checking sensors (Blinking=OK - Continues=NOK, something wrong)
LED 2: The Flap opens and close two times (Alarm LED shows the open and close position, so the led must go ON and OFF two times in accordance of the detected flap position from the internal reed contact. (So, no action on the Alarm LED no movement on the Flap or a defect Reed contact)
LED 3: Fan goes ON and OFF
LED 4: Drain Heater goes ON and OFF
LED 5: De- Dicer Heater goes ON and OFF
LED 6: Compressor goes ON and OFF
LED 7: End of test sequence - Initializing procedure of normal operation.
Every step takes 30s and the whole sequence take tree and a half minute. Be aware that the alarm LED is no malfunction indicator. It has only the indicator function for the sensors.
The fridge goes in the normal operation mode when he passed the sequence. No further actions necessary.
Be aware that every time when the fridge faced a total power lost he makes a short silent 30s check sequence. If he face a malfunction (Sensors or actuators) he doesn't start the compressor anyway to protect the fridge for further damage!!! So, this test sequence is a nice tool to check that the fridge is in the right conditions to start the working and even so to check the compressor function before maybe a unnecessary replacement .
With a second build in test option you can select and activate devices in the fridge. For this You hold the fast freeze button and switch the fridge on. After 10s release the button and you are in a manual test mode. With the temperature button select the component - Push the Fast freeze button to activate or deactivate. For example: Select LED6 (Compressor) with the temperature button, push the fast freeze button for ON and OFF. But I ask You to be careful on this test mode to avoid further damages. For example a blocked motor that You should release better by hand than blow up by a tricky fingertip. Enjoy this fix and feel free for Crtl C + Crtl V.

Why the red light blinking with audible alarm?

Your temperature alarm is going off as it has exceeded your set high temp.

Usually means you have had a power failure or you have a thermostat, starter relay, compressor or freon problem.

To find out what is happening get a therometer and put in fridge. A fridge / freezer thermometer is best but any will help

It should work the same as before. Does the compressor get really hot after running a while? If so it could be low on charge, or there could be a restriction inside the refrigeration system. Either way a professional would have to look at it.
