Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

Trying to install a webcam to PC.

When trying to access Skype with my new webcam (akkord PC300) with camera program fix8, the following occurs.
1: camera works fine locally.
2: When attempting to open fix8 to put the camera stream online, fix8 locks     up.
I am aware that there is no graphics card fitted to the T300 only Integrated 3D graphics accelerator. Does this mean that I must fit a video card to overcome this problem and is it possible to do this?
I can view other users video but they cannot see mine only an instruction screen.
Do you have a solution for my dilemma please?
Appreciate any help given.
Regards Maurie in Western Australia.

    Hi Drew-r,
I have since solved the problem. But, yes, Mine came with the fix8 installation cd and also a USB Webcam Installer by Akkord who made the camera. The akkord cd is version.0708-1 and if you went to www.akkord.com I am sure they would advise you. The crew at fix8 were very helpful but it was me who actually gave them the heads up about my problem.
The solution was so simple it was almost embarrassing, the instructions in the fix8 manual kept refering to the fix8 vitual webcam when in fact the camera is made by Vimicro. On the drop down screen to select the camera, I, in desperation, clicked on the Vimicro webcam instead of the fix8 camera and suddenly the webcam came to life.
I hope that is helpful for you, good luck, cheers Maurie.

actually, very similar, when i try to Tools/Options/Video there is nothing in the box to choose from. I am using an Acer Travelmate laptop and the software seems to be installed correctly.

    Many thanks

except an installation CD for fix8.

Try to re install the cam driver, if still not working disable or configure again the firewall of you anti virus installed. It's happened also to me when i install mcafee antivirus with firewall enable some of my chat cannot connect to my cam. But when i remove the mcafee the cam is working properly. Maybe the firewall setup in your computer is the cause of the problem. Try to disable first the antivirus if still not working uninstall it to fix to problem and re install it again later.

I uninstalled Fix8 now my webcam keeps comming up with use Fix8 when i can't and i dont wish to install it again

Try using Revo Uninstaller to search for leftover files from the Fix8 install. http://www.revouninstaller.com
Once you install the software, try doing a "Forced Uninstall" to remove any leftover files/registry keys from the Fix8 program.

I have bought a Logitech Webcam and I get the message that I have installed it correctly in my Windows XP home PC. The problem is that the camera works only with Wndows Exlprorer (through My computer). Any...

1. Your Skype setup should have selector to let you use the camera indepenently but the Logitech camera utility will have to be disabled or the program exited.
Remove the Logitech camera from the " startup group in the start up window in the startup folder in the program files. this should stop the Logitech program from loading and give the Skype program access to the camera.
