G4 upgrade

MCE 16X DVD-R/RW SuperDrive, NewerTech MaxPower 7448 Single Processor G4 2.0GHz, 1.38 Gb sdram.  Everything fit and booted up well but I cannot get the superdrive to be recognized by my apple products  (iDVD, iMovie)  - which was why I upgraded - to get blazing speed on burning DVD's from iMovie.  And the iWorks '08 programs do not function.I also upgraded to  a new Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 internal hard drive (120 GB) [ata bus].  
So, I have this problem.  The G4 upgrades have created a faster machine but virtually no (i) stuff works - would you have any answers for me - something practical that I can work on??  Do I require something else to be added, either hardware or software? Walter
