Eliminating prop slap low speed high torque situation

The slip yoke in the back of the gearbox has probably worn out, and or the gearbox mount is damaged. Broken engine mounts can also cause this to occur. The alignment of the Gear box and the Rear axle to the chassis can also cause the slapping of the drive safe under load. If the prop shaft does not have a center support, it is more important to make sure that the shaft and not bent, is manufactured into a straight line and properly balanced, and that all of the that the Uni Joints have not failed.

Espesific location of turbine speed sensor on transmission 1998 cadilac deville

their is no such thing as a turbine speed sensor ,as in the torque converter ,you measure the speed of this from the RPM of the engine their is no other sensor that iam aware off ,the next sensor is the road speed sensor or mph sensor which would be on the passenger side transmission shaft drive just on top right by the differential .Their is no sensor measuring the gearbox side of the torque converter speed as it will be the same as the RPM but allowing for slip which is why the torque converter is their in the first place and their is a specific graph for this sort of information with variables for vehicle weight /power /gear ratio /load .

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that the problem will be on the torque converter. If the torque converter is faulty the gear tends to slip. I strongly suggest that you replace the transmission fluid and torque converter to resolve the problem. Once replaced a smooth ride and shifting will be noticeable.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Location of torque converter

your torque converter is located between the engine and transmission, it slips into the trans on the input shaft which drives the pump and bolts to the rear of the engine onto a flywheel which is bolted onto the rear of the crank.

1995 ,and changing gearboxes ,is it honestly worth it ,this vehicle is 15yrs old and not worth more that 500 euros in its present condition ,their are two of these gas consuming monsters here in a local car dealer and i expect he would pay you to remove them ,anyway if you do change it then i doubt if you need to change the torque converter ,but you will have to remove it with the box so you can locate it in the new one prior to fitting ,their is a dog clutch shape that has to align for the front pump drive .Best advice is to renew the vehicle with a diesel coupled to a manual gearbox

Dear kev4,

The problem seems to be originating from your gearbox. The gear box has two main components that convert the torque of the engine to the tailshaft; the 'torque converter' and the 'bands' within the gearbox. If at higher rpm the car starts to rev higher and slow down then it would suggest that one of these two components are slipping or not functioning correctly.

To fix this problem you will have to take your car to a gearbox specialist who with either reccomend a replacement gearbox, a overhaul of the orriginal gearbox or if you get lucky a new torque converter. Unfortunately this car be a costly opperation but is quite important in reguards to the life of the vehicle.

Reguards luke.

Transmission- no sign of slipping, automatic transmission. Fluid good and full. Transmission quit while travelling down the road. No reverse, no drive. Transmission functioned good until that point.

this is caused by your torque converter inside your gearbox being faulty when this part goes wrong it is very rare that they can be fixed so if the worst may happen you will need a new torque converter however this can be an expensive part ask your local garage for a quote
