Question about Sony KP-51HW40 51" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

I have a Sony KP-51HW40. Mice got in the back and pooped everywhere. No wires or anything seem chewed but when I turned it on the only thing that happened was a blinking red light. I cannot afford expensive repairs. Is this something I could fix? What if I got another person's tv that isn't working..could I switch out the boards? Thank you for your help!! Screen shakes / jumps vertically on my Sony KP-51HW40

The jitter is called a vertical sync problem. The problem is on the "A" board. It can be replaced or rebuilt but will be quite expensive to service.

Blue screen

This is easy to fix, pull off the front grill and turn the bottom left trim pot anti clockwise until the picture comes back. I am asuming the picture there and then it fades to blue. There is a step by step instruction on how to get the whole thing apart http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/06/sony-projection-tv-red-line-repair.html

Sony KP-51HW40 6 blinks

Hi Yeooow,
I guess you read the fix for my set wth the six-blink error. If not, here's the link:
http://www.fixya.com/support/t647530-tv_couldnt_turn_no_picture
My set is a KP-53HS30, chassis number P65A-A.
I found a bulged capacitor on the "G" power supply board and replaced the components associated with that circuit (6-volt regulator). If your set has the P65A chassis, I'd be happy to e-mail you the service manual I have, if it will help.

It sounds like your red tube is going out. Fairly expensive piece but easily replaced. They run anywhere from $250-$350.
