This is due to either a bad IC chip or cold solder joints on the IC (integrated circuit) chip. Sometimes lightly tapping on the chip will clear up the picture. You will need to remove the rear panel of the tv to do this.

Just a straight line instead of a picture


A straight horizontal line across the screen means you have no vertical deflection. Could be as minor as a bad solder joint, a failed capacitor, or the vertical deflection IC is bad. Or shorted diode, burnt resistor....

Color line across the center of a black screen


Hi. this is caused by dry solder joints on the frame o/p IC. Resolder all legs of frame chip. Should sort that out.
