Had Cable box hooked-up to HDMI 2 and dvd to HDMI 1 with cable coax audio hooked into coax 2 and dvd audio hooked into coax1. Everything worked fine. Got Xbox 360 took dvd HDMI out and hooked-up Xbox 360 into HDMI 1 and audio cables into AUX red and white. Everything worked fine then after several hours I heard a buzz in speakers then lost sound. I removed Xbox cables from AVR588 had sound for cable box for awhile then lost sound again. I tried to reset system by holding in Speaker A and B buttons in at the same time, but nothing. HELP! EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED!!

I have the same problem. A buzzing sound started with my speakers and then all sound was lost. To eliminate the possibility it was simply my Bose speakers, I plugged my headphones in. I had sound for a couple minutes, then the buzzing began and I lost sound from the headphones as well.

    Any suggestions?

I have a AVR588 and the power button starts flashing red 5 minutes after it is turned on. This happens with nothing connected. Can anyone help.

I'm having similar problems but not as extreme as the thermal/short protection kicking in as indicated with the red flashing power indicator. I can listen to a DD or DTS signal for awhile before buzzing or popping starts and usually followed up with no sound. I can switch my mode to stereo and back to resume normal operation only for it to occur again in a short period of time. So far most of my DVD's play fine with the exception of 1 DTS music CD. It's almost a sure thing it will happen with signals from my HD cable box. Both are digital connections and I've tried different cables using both coaxial and optical. It even occurs with analog connection from my CD player in DLII mode. I'm thinking the worst and have e-mailed Denon, waiting on a response. I've used this receiver all of 1 month now. I've checked all connections for shorts or loose connections, all ok there. Air flow around the unit is fine and in fact this unit doesn't feel as hot as an Onkyo that I run downstairs. Is there anything that I could be checking while I wait on Denon? Bad timing as the big game is coming up this weekend.

If power button is flashing red and you have other devices stacked on top of AVR it is probably overheating.

Read this procedure to possibly fix the remote:
They also sell replacement remotes.
Zoom in on the picture of the original remote provided on the site (or look at your own) and get the actual remote model number.

or check eBay: search for "(model of the device or the remote) remote", check the 'include description' box. Usually cheaper than the vendors.

My Phillips HTS3520 plays DVDs fine and the sound is excellent. However, it is not playing the TV channels thorugh the theatre system.

Without more data, I can only make some general suggestions.

First: Check your cables. If you are using a converter box, there must be a set of audio and video cables going from the cable box to the Home Theatre unit. These will be a yellow/white/red set of cables. Second: If these cables are plugged into "AUX1" or "AUX2" make sure this is what reads on the front of the HT unit. You already have cables going from the HT to the TV because your DVD works.

Although this sounds obvious (please forgive me-I am not underestimating you) IF your TV receiver is 6 years old or more, and you are NOT using cable or satellite, there will be nothing for your set to pick up since the conversion from analog to digital.

I have SR 307 onkyo A/V receiver home theatre system. the remote control has stopped working. i checked with a local dealer and that the remote is okay and something has wrong in the receiver,

Did you check the remote with another Onkyo system at the dealer ??. If its OK try resetting the system. Remember you will loose all your stored presets ( FM and customized settings ) and the Amp will go back to factory settings.
While in standby mode hold down the DVD button and press the Standby/On button., the display will show Clear and the Receiver will go into standby mode. Turn it on and try the remote once again.

To listen to Tv program sound through your home theater system you will have to connect a pair of RCA to RCA cables (Red and White pair ) from the audio out socket of the TV ( some times three sockets Yellow/Red/White labeled Monitor out. Ignore the yellow as it is video out ) to the Aux or CBL/Sat input of the LG system. Then to listen to the sound through your LG HT system switch the Input selector of the LG to Aux or CBL/SAT. Will work for sure.

I tend to agree that the LED is loose on the foil connections. You can certainly test it by shining it at a camcorder and observing the viewfinder. Most, if not all, video units can "see" the light coming from the led if it is functioning. An easy way to test this is to use another remote that you know is working and do the 'corder test. ....accordianman
