Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console

Xbox Chat doesn't work properly..

It works fine when I'm in Xbox Live and chatting in the game, but whenever I'm in a private chat, i can still hear everyone that ISN'T in the chat just as loud as they are in the game (correct me if I'm wrong but, aren't the people that aren't in chat with you supposed to be quieter than the one that IS in chat with you??) ALSO.. if i try to chat with somebody while watching any media content or movie: I CANNOT hear them but they can hear me. I checked all the settings and tried a ton of different things but it still don't seem to work. I called Xbox and I'm just passed the warranty so they won't help anymore. Any suggestions?

I can't seem to get the Private Chat to work at all with mine -- even when not using wireless it doesn't work!?!?!

  • Jason May 11, 2010

In a Private chat, you should ONLY hear the person in the chat with you. If you're in, say Halo, playing a Ranked playlist, everyone on your team (if not in a private chat) will come through, as well as proximity chat. But there are also game-specific settings for Halo. Not sure what game you're playing, though.

As for during the media content, no clue. 8004myxbox should still be able to help you; you're not sending them any hardware.

If you are in a private chat, the only person you will hear is the person in the chat with you. You will not hear anyone else and nobody else will hear you.

When playing Halo Reach online I cant hear any friends in custom playlist. This is both in game and in lobby. If we join a chat party then we can hear each other fine though. When in matchmaking I can hear...

Depending on which type of chat session you are connected to... everyone needs to be in the same chat menu. Sometimes when switching from game chat to party chat you might still be stuck in game chat while others are in private chat or visa versa.

To talk to only players in your game: Press the Guide button, then select Party, Party Options, Chat Channel, and Game Chat.

To talk to only members of the party: Press the Guide button, then select Party, Party Options, Chat Channel, and Party Chat.

To mute an individual: Press the Guide button, then select Party, the player's gamertag, and Mute.

It is a possibility that you are not in the same chat session with your friends. they might be in a party chat with others while you are in game chat. (note you can only have a max of 8 people in one party chat) Or you might still be in a party chat (that everyone else has left) and they are in game chat.

Cant chat to 1 of my freinds on xbox live

What is their internet connection speed?

Your friend may not have port forwarding on their home network and the network router filters the Internet NAT redirection...

Setting up a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on the router for the Xbox gives it unrestricted access to the internet; also puts your Xbox outside you routers firewall.

DMZ ports have to be programmed manually and the IP address also must be manually entered; The DHCP Automatic IP address puts the Xbox back behind the firewall; just duplicate the automatic DNS Server settings and the Netmask. Then choose a IP address outside the Automatic IP range (e.g. 192.168.1.175)

If that does resolve the issue see if the other Xbox needs a Live Update.

Cant have private chat or play games with friends

This should solve your problem

For most devices that use NAT, port forwarding is not required to connect to Xbox Live. This is especially true if you use an Xbox Live certified device. Sometimes, you may have to configure port settings on a non Xbox Live certified router or gateway.

If there is a firewall device between the Xbox console and the network device, you may have to configure the firewall to enable communication on specific network ports. If the NAT status in the Network Status area of the Dashboard is "moderate" or "strict," you may have to configure port settings.

The following ports must be available for Xbox Live to operate correctly:
 UDP 88
 UDP 3074
 TCP 3074

To open the ports on your router see this handy website here,

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

which gives you a step by step guide.

Before opening the ports you must give your Xbox 360 a static IP address (manual) be sure to use an IP address that no other item on your network is using and is fairly high up in your range, for example if your router's address is 192.168.0.1 then you should use something like 192.168.10 for your Xbox 360.

You can also enable DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) on your router, which will open up all the ports to your Xbox 360, however NEVER use this on a PC's IP, see your router's manual on how to do this.

Once the correct ports are open for your Xbox 360, then your NAT should say open.

Xbox Live Chat don't work properly

I don't think you should hear people not in your private chat at all. Make sure you are signed into the private chat and not the game chat. Push the center button on the controller and go to chat. If you already tried this I don't know what else could be the problem. Sorry.
