Question about Simer 1/6 Hp Submersible Utility Pump

Open Question

I have a simer submersible utility pump model 2325-02 The pump was mistakenly opened on the wrong end, exposing and spilling the oil within. Is the pump still usable? I don't know how much oil was really lost and I don't know what grade of oil was in there. If the seal was broken (gasket keeping oil in and separated from any water) will I be able to get it back just so. Worried....I just don't know. Mike

SOURCE: what kind of is used in a simer submersible

The Simer brand of submersible dewatering pumps rely on being fully submersed in water for proper cooling and for the seals to remain water tight and effective.

According to the manufacturer, there is no oil used in the pump, other than a very small amount that was used in assembling the pump at the factory, so you shouldn't oil the pump, but rather follow the recommendations as to making sure the pump is installed properly.

Here's the owners manual for your particular pump (Model #2300) so you can check the troubleshooting FAQ's and so you can also contact the manufacturer, should you need replacement parts or need to make a warranty claim, etc.

I have a Simer 2305 and the pump will run but does not when the water is low?

Pumps such as the Simer 2305 do not pump water totally down to ground level. They are designed so they do not suck up debris , sediment, etc, which can clog and ruin the pump. So if your pump leaves an inch or so of water, that is normal.

Brand new Simer pump Model 2330-03 runs 10 seconds shuts off, turns back on, runs 10 seconds shuts off, etc., etc. Why is this happening?

Sounds like a faulty switch on the float. Try to hold the switch up by hand and see if it stays running, if so you may need to lube the switch. If not then it sounds like a manufacturer defect and needs to be returned.

Submersible utility pump needs oil, what kind should I use in it.

What looks like 'oil' coming out of your pump is actually water! It has leaked and is fully contaminated. The seal for the pump must have leaked and it filled up. Take the 'big screw' back out and drain it and let it dry for a couple days. Then use some silicone as a gasket and put it back together. You may run again! It will probably fail sooner rather than later with a bad bearings from the water damage. That's what gave it the oily appearance.
