Pcmcia is a card slightly smaller than the antique floppy disc that usually fits in a slot on the side of your laptop your model does have this slot, but personally I would go for a usb hsdpa modem as this provides faster broadband internet.
good luck

I purchased a wifi card for my N610c but don't see where it's installed

Hi

You don't say which operating system you are using.

You don't say which brand, type, format and model of Wifi Card you bought.

If it is an internal card, this cannot be installed without total disassembly of the notebook and, even then, might not fit because the motherboard might not support it or even have a slot for it. This card also requires internal aerial wires. Such a device also needs channels and LCD Panel sockets for the card's aerial wires.

What you should do is go back to where you bought the card from and exchange it for either a PCMCIA or USB Wireles LAN card, which fit simply into the notebook via its PCMCIA or USB ports. After you install the software and restart the PC, your notebook will be able to connect to your wireless router.

Wifi wireless connection We just bought a new battery charger and new battery for compaq evo n400c but we can't get a wireless connection that worked before, but we have changed internet companies and...

N400C with XP?
compaq day,seems like only compaqs fail of the HP holdings..
1 more relic PC, from Compaq.
well gee can you connect a starbucks or any other public
wifi? surely you can do that.
if that works, gee the wifi is ok, no? all in few minutes work
or do so at a friends how, him telling you his secret password and all that.

that card is PCMCIA card, now called PCcard. for slang.
it is and ADDON card, and needs its own special drivers to work.

first off the Cat5/6 (RJ45) ETHERNET cable sold in all stores
plugs into that PC, and connects to the router and works with no magic. (assuming OS has not been corrupted ,unstated OS by you)
IS THIS a XP PC? the virus magnet from H3LL>?

that is a wired connection, and makes getting new drivers
1000x times more easy off the net. unless you want to use 2nd PC and play musical file swaps, all day.?
sure it worked before, all things by man dead, (well not Yugos or stuff from china)
My wild guess, (i cant see your device manger page)
is that the drivers for the PCMCIA WIFI (unnamed) works.
and the dimbulb , ISP guy didt set up wifi and give you a paper
telling you the 3 facts to make it works.
1: the SSID (name)
2: the encryption (wep, wpa, wpa2) or add hoc, wide open dangerous.
3: and your very own, pass word.

lacking that its hard to connect, or use the hot button n the
what router, ? name and number.
we can go to it and login and see what is there.

there is also WPA, wireless protected setup , if turned ON in the router, I keep mine Off.
you press that magic button on router and then try to connect using windows wifi connect icon. or app
Add Wireless Station , is the name.
may old wifi cards like yours do not allow WPA magic connections.

so if the wifi icon in the try
if yes and you click it , do you see your neighbors broadcast SSID names> good. if not WIFI is DEAD.
if dead, you need to get the drivers for it,
remove the PCMCIA card, the
read the name the the number
and then find a driver from the maker. matching XP if this is XP
you never once told OS./ so... we cant help much.

btw it can work with your new router
but the guy who put it in is a lazy dog.
he'd have told you the new connection rules. above
for sure.
or gave you the PASS word to your router.!
is it yours, his, my guess, HIS>

i have relic pc used only for running relic expensive software
and uses the same type card, I installed it.
a D-Link Dwa-652
and now I answer Q2, can i do this other ways, sure.
gotcha1: the card I have only runs in 1 of the 2 slots, yah tricky.

you can buy a USB WIFI dongle
but finding one for XP is hard now. XP is DEAD.

why not go to GOODWill and buy any LT there with W7 COA sticker on the bottom , for 100% better and longer support.
why own any LT this old?>????? why?
can buy one there for like $20
and has internal wifi that works far better. too.

This laptop does not have WiFi hardware. You will need to buy hardware which has WiFi ... either a "PCMCIA wireless card", or a "USB WiFi adapter".

What wifi card for 12xl500 (compaq)?

It depends.

If your computer runs Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7, every known brand-new wireless adapter will work.

If your computer has a PCMCIA slot (about the size/thickness of a credit-card), then you can buy a "PCMCIA wireless adapter".

If your computer has a USB slot (most do!) then you can buy a "USB wireless adapter".

There are three different data-transfer speeds for wireless communications:
* wireless B -- up to 11 megabits/second
* wireless G -- up to 54 megabits/second
* wireless N -- much faster.

Note that "high-speed" service from your local cable-modem ISP can receive at up to 10.0 megabits (or even faster) per second, while "lite-speed" service receives data at around 1.0 megabits per second.

So, when downloading, it's your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) that will be the "bottle-neck", not the "B" or "G" or "N" capability of your wireless adapter.

You probably can find "used" wireless-B or wireless-G adapters, in your local area:
* online, via 'www.usedEverwhere.com'
* local computer-stores
* online via eBay

for $10 to $20 dollars.

Pick a "brand-name", and you can download the device-drivers for it from the manufacturer's web-site ('www.linksys.com', 'www.dlink.com')
if Windows does not automatically recognize it.

Hello, i need a wifi card for my presario 700z but have no idea where to buy. any help would be great. thank you frank

You have a variety of options including USB wireless adapters
If you are in the US or Canada then any of the big box stores Future Shop, Best Buy etc should have them available. smaller places that should also carry them are The Source, Tandy, Radio Shack. etc

Make my Compaq Presario Laptop Wi-Fi.

If the wireless card is about the size of a thick credit card then it is a PCMCIA card device. This card plugs into the PCMCIA slot on either the LH side or the RH side of the laptop. You need to install the wireless card driver on the laptop and configure it to communicate with your wireless router which is connected to your Internet Service Provider. This wireless card can also connect to the Internet on free WiFi sites. As you are a novice, you will need a computer savy friend to help you or your friendly computer shop.

Need WiFi instead of Bluetooth

You have two choices for a wireless connection, a PCMCIA card or a USB device.
My choice would be a PCMCIA card, because it frees up a USB port.
There are quite a few PCMCIA card to choose from, I favour Netgear and D-Link.
Their instructions make them easy to install and setup.
Let me know if you have problems.

Network card

Any type of PCMCIA network card should work okay.
Go down to Staples, Best Buy or Office Depot and find
a decent PCMCIA network card.  You should be able to find
one for under $50
