Is the phone line connected to the TV listed above? Is it a cordless or corded phone? I use an old corded (rotary) phone for diagnostics (no failures from other parts like the battery). If you have a cordless phone, start by checking a corded phone on the jack. Use a new cable (RJ11) to check a bad wire to the phone. Check other jacks if available. Do you hear a dial tone at any of these spots. Then find where your phone service comes in, open that box and see if there is a RJ11 jack and plug the phone in at that point. (Some older service installations need a special adapter to connect to the wiring. The testers with that adapter are available but they are expensive.) If you can plug in an RJ11 cord, use the phone to check for a dial tone.

If you hear a dial tone at the service but not inside, the problem is inside the house and you'll need to pay for a service call if you can't find an issue. Check the wiring inside the house where you can (loose wires touching inside the outlet box, chewed wires in exposed runs (like in a basement). If only one jack has the buzzing, just check that jack.

If you do not hear a dial tone but get the buzzing outside, your phone company should fix it free. (It could be crossed wires or damage to a part in the connection.)

If the problem is in the phone and not the jack or wire, the solution will depend the phone. Replacing the phone may be the best option.

I hope this helps.

My Binatone Idect Edge single DECT has no dial tone, just a buzz. The display is working, but I cannot ring out, or receive calls.

Plug a different telephone into the telco connector. If no dial tone, the Binatone set is defective.

Our landline is not working it shows that line in use

if you have one than one phone in the house remove them all from the sockets to find witch phone is causing the problem as one of the phones is connecting to the line. if this is not the case the last call you received is still connected. and you would need to use another phone and call your provider to reset your line at there end to remove the call.

How do i change the voicemail on my landline and how do i retrieve messages on telkom landline.

Hello, Janine -

The voice mail and message service for your landline phone is provided by your landline service provider. If you did not receive a printed booklet directions for your landline phone service, I suggest you call your landline telephone service provider Customer Service number (Telkom) and ask for one.

From the Telkom web site, this looks like the number to call:
10210

Best wishes

My uniden phone is not working. All hand sets say Check Tel Line. Will not make or receive calls. Will a dead battery in one handset make all handsets malfunction? Are batteries available?

batteries are available from e-bay
one dead battery will not affect any others
all hand sets make calls and receive calls through the base unit that is connected to the landline
base unit is connected to the landline and operates any hand set that is picked up
make sure all handsets have the end call button pressed as one not pressed after use may keep a line open
call your provider to check the land line to your premises
borrow a neighbours phone and plug it into the socket and see it you get a line on their phone

I'm receiving a "no line" message and cannot receive or make calls what can I do?

Replace the jumper cable between the wall jack and the phone. You've probably installed a "roll over" cable by accident.

How does one forward incomming calls on a uniden 2.4ghz cordless phone?

Cordless phones can not 'forward' a call to an outside line.
Forwarding must be controlled by the ATT, Verizon, or landline provider.
Please contact your provider to determine if you have call forwarding feature built into your service package.

Then, follow the instructions of your landline phone provider.
Here is the instructions for Verizon:

Activating Call Forwarding
You can activate Call Forwarding whenever you want your calls to be sent to another phone, including a mobile phone. Once activated, all your calls will be sent to the forwarding number you request. Each time a call is forwarded, you will hear one short reminder tone on your home phone, but you will not be able to answer the call from your home number.

  1. Lift your telephone's receiver and listen for a dial tone.

  2. Press star.gif7.gif2.gif.
In some areas you must use 7.gif2.gifpound.gif
Dial 1172 on rotary or pulse-dialing phones.

  3. When you hear the tone, set or change the Call Forwarding number by dialing the telephone number where you want your calls transferred.
You will hear the number you entered ring. When the number is answered, Call Forwarding is activated.

  4. If the call is not answered or the line is busy, hang up and call the number again within two minutes.
You will hear two short tones telling you that Call Forwarding is activated.

  5. Hang up the receiver.

Can't receive calls from a landline phone

yeah it's because i think you have the "name display" feature offered by Fido/Rogers i got the same problem lol. Call them up and tell them to take it off or change your package. a1200 doesn't support the "Name Display" feature.
