Teledyne Laars Cycyling Problem

I have a Teledyne-Laars JVT-100 Mini-therm combo, It seems to work normal when it first starts up, then starts to cycle on and off, it will stay on for 10-20 second then go off for a second and come right back on, it will do this for a while until it starts working normal again. It has a combo pilot/ignitor/sensor and it is brand new. Any ideas?

The safety valve isn't opening .It's very possible that a spider is trapping the opening of the orifice.

SOURCE: Ihave aTeledyne Laars mini therm jvt

You ether have an internal by-pass or an external one. If you have an external one you need to close it up to 80-90 persent. This will allow some water to go past the heater but most will go through it. If it is open too much the water will offer enough pressure to start the heater but if it doesn't flow through it. It will boil the water inside it and gurgeling and pounding as the water expands. If you have a problem with your internal by-pass you will get the same result but it is harder to fix. This is a disc mounted on a shaft held closed by a spring inside your water manifold on the heater. If you open the header you can get access to the by-pass and may be able to sand the shaft down or if the disc is broken you can replace it. Hope this helps and good luck.
