Possible bad relay. When you push the start button, you engage the start capacitor long enough to get the motor turning. When you release, either a run capacitor kicks in or a relay kicks in to keep power applied.

Also note some models have a motor relay controled by "even heat" board if relay is not energized by the board or has bad contacts internally relay will not keep motor running

That should be just a push to start switch. The start switch is inside the motor. When the motor turns fast enough it trips an internal switch to keep the motor running. It sounds like you have a motor on the way out.

My Roper dryer heats up but does not turn when I push the start button. What would cause the dryer to not spin?

one is the belt may be broken or have slipped off the pulley.the door switch could also be bad. try and hold the door open and depress the door switch at the same time someone is pushing/turning the start button and then try to rotate the drum be hand and see if it will turn. the motor could have alot of lint build up and cause the motor not to turn.

Wont turn on checked outlet and breaker

Check the door switch with an ohmmeter AFTER removing power from the dryer. The switch should read zero ohms when the plunger is pressed into the switch.

Roper dryer by maytag press star button here noise but does not start?

you will nead someone to help you to see if you have a bad moter.first open door, with your right hand push in on the door switch.hold the switch in ,have someone push the start switch in and at the same time with your left hand turn the dryer drum clock wise,if the dryer starts than you have a bad moter.the cost of the moter would be 1/3off the cost off a new unit.
