I would try going into your video settings, right click on your desktop then go to properties, In the window click on the Screen Saver tab and go to the bottom where it says monitor power click the button that says powermidway towards the bottom there will be 3 settings, the first being "turn off monitor" with a drop down menu... set it to Never. That should keep it from turning off. If there is something wrong with the cables and its stil shutting off, you may just need to gte a new power cord, its usually the same cord used for the computer power and they aren't very expensive, Radio Shack probably carries them. Hope thishelps, Good Luck!

Screen goes black. the power light is on, but the picture goes out. if i turn the power off, then on again it comes back for about 5 seconds, then goes black again.

Check to see if this problem follows in safe mode. Reboot and when the Dell splash screen comes up tap F8 until you see the multiboot options. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" let the machine boot up and see if you have a screen. If you do, right click on the desktop and set the resolution to 800 X600 and reboot normally. Usually when a screen goes blank in normal mode but shows up in safe mode means you have an incompatible resolution for the monitor or graphics adapter. This may be a driver issue or hardware. If the screen boots up in normal mode at the lower resolution, then try and go to properties again and bump the resolution up a bit, if it blanks again, try to go online and update the driver for the graphics chip.

Hello, I have a HP 22w LCD monitor, running

Can you try the monitor on another computer? Also, make sure the cable is tight on the monitor side. And you also may need to replace the cable between the monitor and the computer.

Monitor keep going into "sleep" mode

Check the power setting in control panel of windows. If you have a monitor from another computer swap them and see if the problem stays with the computer or monitor.

Montiors shut off

if the monitor goes into standbye when you plug it into the computer , it generally means there is NO signal coming from your video adaptor.
Plug the old monitor in , if it works, ide suspect the new monitor(s) are not working correctly.
if it doesnt work , you need to restart the computer in safe mode by repettitively tapping the f8 button as the computer starts, before it says "starting windows".
If you have a signal on your monitor in safe mode, then most likely you have a bad or corrupted video driver and it will need to be updated.
if you have no video in safe mode , you will need to remove the cover and physiclly check that all add-in card power cables and memory chips are squarly seatied in there slots. MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG THE COMPUTER AND DISCHARGE ANY STAIC BUILDUP IN YOURSELF BY GROUNDING (TOUCHING) SOMETHING METAL BEFORE YOU TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE THE COMPUTER.

AFTER YOU CHECK THESE THINGS AND TRECONNECT THE POWER AND TRY TO START......POST AGAIN HERE

Monitor won't stay on. Error message comes up that says "no input signal", then monitor goes out.

Problem with the monitor, monitor cable, or video output. For monitor, if you have more than one input, make sure it's set to the correct one. Try a different cable. Try a different monitor. Check your video card settings--if you see the BIOS bootup screen while it's coming up then the Windows splash screen, then monitor blanks out, it's a Windows display setting. Boot into safe mode, then change settings--
  • Turn the computer on or Restart the computer
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Boot Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe mode option is selected (the top option)
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • When you are finished with troubleshooting, close all programs and restart the computer as you normally would.
