Dell D600 won't boot

Hi,
Hope some of you guys can help. My Dell D600 laptop won't boot. The power light comes on but there's no fans spinning. No beeps no flashing caps lock or anything. It stays with the power light on for as long as I like, and the screen is slightly backlit so that must be working. I've reseated the RAM and tried 1 stick (both individually) but no difference. Tried pressing on F7 and F8 during boot no difference. Tried with power supply or battery no difference. Any ideas?

I'd like to look at the mobo to see if theres anything burnt out but not sure how many screws to undo to do that, all I've opened so far is the M (memory) and C (wireless PCI card?) hatches.

I was of the opinion if it was the CPU there would be beeps? Or some sort of error notification? I'm getting nothing like that.

  • bluepri Jul 28, 2010

btw when I try it with NO RAM AT ALL, I get no beeps...

Is that telling me a bad motherboard or a bad RAM controller on the mobo?

I am sure Not the CPU or fan problem. Follow the below step to repair it.
1. Just press the power button 5 seconds or more to see the laptop can reboot or not. 2. replug the memory modules. 3. maybe the power supply device failed that the electronic volt is not enough to boot the laptop. Just replace a new Dell latitude d600 battery power supply.

My dell d600 if i on it after 5-10 minutes it will automatically off waht is the solution

Overheating When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

Dell latitude d600- won't boot up!!!

Yes this can be a opverheating problem that's why sometimes it boots up, if the processor is not working fine because of overheating you check first the cooling system of your computer liek the fan if they are working fine because if the fan is not working the way it should be working oeverheating may occur and will result to this problem...

Hope that helps.......

Periodic Boot-up Problems with Dell Latitude D600

Well I had the same problem with my Dell Latitude D600. I tried many batteries, fully charged, partially charged and even i tried scenarios with AC Power On or Off. Nothing really seemed to work as my laptop was both hot and cold. I noticed this problem was coming specially when laptop is cold.
The Solution is found is, when i have this problem, i press the power button and then move the rotate the laptop, so that its screen touches the desk and keybord is upright verticle, i know it sounds ODD, but it really made my life so easier as now this problem doesnt haunt me.  and it will boot on first, second or third go.

Normal Laptop Condition with keybord down and LCD Open
                     /                     /      / lcd
__________/
You need to move the laptop in one of the following if it is having boot problem again
       \               /          \            /            \         /  keybrd  \      /  lcd                \   /                 \/
or put the lcd down flat while keeping the keyboard in the same position as above.

I m sorry the above illustrations are pretty rough but hope u understand what i mean :)
