Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a Sony KDS-R50XBR1. A couple weeks ago it started coming on for 30 seconds and then shut off for 30 seconds while green light blinked and kept doing this, on then off. I was told it was either the ballast supply or lamp. I replaced the ballast suply. Now when I turn it on after about 10 seconds the power stand by light goes from blinking green to blinking red 3 times. So I ordered the lamp. It does the same thing blinking green then red 3 times. The lanp door is secured and I can hear the microswitch click, I have even held it with my finger, same thing happens. I put the old ballast supply and lamp back in and it does the same thing blinking green to 3 red. No 30 second picture as it was doing before with the original parts. ?????? I do have the back off the set and have only been securing the lamp door when testing.

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. As you have already replaced the lamp and the ballast, then the 3 blinks means that you’ll need to check G Board for the issue. These usually occur due to +B over voltage and you’ll need to check IC501, IC5002 on the G board and replace the part that has gone bad. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

I am more concerned about the blinking stand by light which may have been the root cause of your problems. Start first to check the power supply circuit which is found connected right after the power chord. Inspect it for physical signs such as leaks, swollen or burnt capacitors. Normally these are cheaper parts to get. Check also IC501 and IC5002 on the G board along the capacitors. I have a link below which should show a sample picture which may vary depending on the model that you have. If there are no physical damages on the IC, you may need to have it tested. G Board sample

    Sorry about that.

Also take note that the price may be different from the model that you have. Thanks

I could not see anything that looked bad.

What about the 3 red blinks?

    What does that mean?

your tv has gone to standby mode triggered by an over voltage. The items I mentioned are typical causes of this issue but if physical damages are not found, you may have to have the mentioned IC tested.

I have a Sony KDS-R50XBR1. it worked fine last night, this morning however, it did not come on at all. it blinks green for awhile, then blinks red continuesly. what is wrong? please help.

The red blinks are a diagnostic tool. If you search this site for KDS-R50XBR1 you will see several problems and the area to look in to. the red blinks should be followed by a three second pause and then repeat. Just count the blinks after the pause and you should have a better idea of what is wrong. The service manual goes all the way up to ten blinks.

My KDS-R50XBR1 will power on with picture for approx 1 second with the power light in green, then shut down automatically and the lamp light blinks 4 times. Is this a bad lamp only? Thanks! Mike A.

Hi,
If Lamp light blinks then it is lamp that is near to end of its working life.
If standby light is blinking then it is some thing else, when did you replaced lamp in tv last time?
Thanks.

Power light flashed red 4 times then repeats no pic,new bulb/fan!

Check the fan that cools the bulb. It is directly behing the bulb. It should turn on when the power comes on. It apparently has a safety to protect your tv(and home). mine is in the process of going out. looking for online solutions as we speak.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52

I too have a Sony KDS-R60XBR1 tv and the issue that you are experiencing is due to one of your fans in the rear of the tv is not working.  The tv automatically shuts off in protective mode.  Make sure the POWER/STANDBY light is blinking and not the lamp light below it.  Is the power/standby blinking 4 times in red? If, yes then its a fan that needs to be replaced.  If its the lamp light blinking then you need to replace the lamp.  The lamp is easy to replace by ordering the lamp either from Sony for $250 or find it cheaper for approx. $150 from other DLP sources and replace youself by following your manual.  I hope this helps you.

Sony kds-r50xbr1 turns itself off and then green light blinks 52 times

Just replace its Lamp and procedure is written in user manual of KDS-R50XBR1
F93087600 XL-5100 LAMP BLOCK
Lamp is available in Sony Accessories and price is $250
Always buy Sony original lamp for good picture in TV and avoid aftermarket / cheap lamps that can cause damage of TV circuits.
