My dvd drive couldn't be detected. could you help me with this, thank u

go to device manager, by clicking on start, right click on my computer and go to manage and see if it is detected in device manager, if it is, it may just need a new driver. Look for any Yellow ! or ?

If it is not then scan for newly added devices. If it still is not detected and in a laptop, WHILE POWERED DOWN, press gently on the DVD drive door like you are pressing it to be closed. if it has come unseated this may help. If on a desktop this wont help and you will need to verisfy that the cables have not come undone, rare but can happen especially with travel. If neither works, and in a desktop you can power off and put in a different drive. if this works you know your last drive has failed and that you can now be the proud owner of a new drive! If in a laptop a bit harder a not may people have a spare DVD drive that will fit yours just lying around. Try placing a different disk in the drive say a cd and see i it is still not finding it.

Go to the support.dell.com webpage, enter the service tag number, located on a label on the bottom of the laptop, and download the latest BIOS update and drivers for the CD/DVD drive. You can verify the drive type in Device Manager. Once you have downloaded the files, upgrade the BIOS, this will restart the system. Next, remove the CD\DVD in Device Manager and then install the new driver for the drive. When the driver has been installed, Open Device Manager and right click on My Computer at the top of the list and left click on Scan for changes. The drive will be detected adn installed with the new driver and the registry will be updated.

Good luck, and please let me know how it works for you.
