Question about Toshiba REGZA 46RV530U LCD TV

1 Answer

I have a Toshiba 46RV530U LCD TV about 2 1/2 yrs old.... I tried to turn on the power with the remote for the TV, from the cable remote, and manually from the side of the TV but no power? This is the first time I've had this problem and I've checked all connections but still no power... Any ideas on my dilemma?

This is usually caused by a problem inside the power source. The little lights on the case of the tv are indicators, their behavior will give you a clue on the severity of the fault:
- if the lights blink or are of a different color that suggests that the power source if intact but it has shut itself down because it has detected a fault one one of the other components of the tv - this will be easy and cheap to fix - the defective part (usualy some aged capacitors) are cheap and easy to replace
 - if the lights are constantly red or orange that means that the power source has detected a failure and it has itself sustained some damage; this is going to be quite difficult to fix and expensive - multiple parts are gone;
- no lights are on - the power source and the the board that hosts the failed part are gone; this is a massive failure, complete boards of your tv will gonna have to be replaced. This is definitely a job for a repairman and it's going to be very expensive.

Yes, there are no lights that come up when i tried last night and again today.... The TV worked just fine Monday night and there wasn't any symptoms or problems leading up to this...So you think this is a major and costly repair possibly? Is this a common problem? I'm assuming this isn't something that is covered under Toshiba's manufacturer warranty.... I paid $1600 for this TV 2.5yrs ago and when you mean, costly and expensive, what kind of a ballpark figure are you thinking? Thanks for your quick response...

Yes, failures of this magnitude usually happen out of the blue, no warning signs.

On your particular model? No, but you could have just stumbled on a lemon, it happens. And no, sorry, it's not covered by the warranty.
Since it's a total failure you can't expect to pay just for parts less than $150. If you're unlucky and the damage is really extensive the bill for the parts alone could go beyond $500. To that you must add the labor - between $150 and $300, depending on the shop.
You should take it to a shop and get a quote - you might realize it's better just to buy a new one.

Thank you. Well after talking with Toshiba yesterday, they had me try and resetting the TV (leaving it unplugged for 30 seconds), which also did not work. They then proceeded to give me a phone number to a local service center, which I'm pretty furious by now.... After getting off the phone with them, I just unplugged the TV in frustration. I then went through all of paperwork to see if I had purchased an extended warranty with the place I purchased the TV from, but with no luck... I plugged the TV up one last time (after about 10 min), and what do you know, I seen 3 blinking yellow lights, indicating the TV is powering up and just moments later, I was able to turn the TV on and breathe a big sigh of relief!!.... Not sure what caused this problem but it could've been weathered related with the storms that we had.

One other question, this same TV now has what looks like dark smudge marks almost in the center of the TV and also to the very left of the screen. It just looks like caked up dirt but of course when I tried to wipe it down with a soft cloth, the marks remain there. And ideas on what this problem may be? Thanks again!

All your problems appear to be caused by faulty CCFL tubes (the tubes that provide the light on your tv) -  apparently you have a bad connection to them so they aren't powered correctly . And yes , when they aren't powered the tv will simply refuse to work. At this moment some of them work and some don't. Take the back cover off and try to reseat their connection , it might have gotten loose with age.

I've had my Toshiba 46RV530U less than 2 years,

Diana, did you ever find a solution? My Toshiba (same model) is about 2 years old and it started getting these 4 horizontal lines spaced pretty far apart and a double image at bottom. When I lightly tap the top of the TV, they went away. But now that is not working. Please let me know. Thanks.

I have sound with my toshiba 46rv530u tv, however I am getting no picture.

The problem is more likely to be bad backlight inverter board, or it is not getting 24vdc from the power supply, Check the dc outputs of 5, 12, and 24V on the power supply board first.

No picture on a Toshiba 46RV530U

Turn the tv on and shine a flashlight on the screen. Its hard to see a pic but most likely, its there. For some reason, your lamps in the panel are not turning on. Inverters are my first guess.

Sounds like you need to try reseating the lvds cables on the t-con board. This board is located at the top of the set in the center. You will have to remove the metal shield covering the board. Then you will see to flat cables connected to the board, one for each side of the screen.carefully unlock the connectors and remove and replace the cables. If this does not work you will need a new t-con board.I'm not sure about this particular model but sometimes the t-con board is only available as part of the lcd panel assembly.Good luck!

Toshiba regza 46rv530u will not turn on

Check the ac fuse. In a couple of cases because of a power surge the fuse opens up.
After replacing, the sets have worked normally.
