NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A will only read and burn DVD's,...

my NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A will only read dvd's or burn dvd's. it wont reconize that there is a blank cd or audio cd in the writer or any cd if that matters. so in short i cannot play or burn cd's.
I have tried reinstalling the firmware and cleaning the plate with rubbing alcohol. does anyone know what else I can try please.

thanks, I downloaded the new firmware and restarted the computer, still same problem. I have also contacted the nec people as well. if you have any other suggestions I would appreciate them. regards

You could try updating the Driver.

Have you contacted the manufacturers site and a)checked out their FAQ's and in the last resort Contacted their Support for help?
