My husband would like to start canoeing with our 10 and 8year old kids. He is a beginner and would like to take them fishing and just relaxing trips. Do you recommend a canoe?

He should join a local paddling club tio find other parents and kids, and he should take lessons--whether at the club (cheap) or elsewhere (less cheap but might save a life and will make every outing much more fun). I am an instructor, and I know how much it helps people to be able to do a few things right.

Canoes are great for family outings in water and they are relatively easy to use even for children as young as 6yrs, (if accompanied by an adult). Paddling is quite simple and although it may feel tippy, canoes are really quite stable in the water. Make sure the adult is in the stern of the boat so he can steer and see what the other passengers are doing.

Approx 2 wide by 7 inch long gash in starboard side at the waterline

That's a pretty serious size gash to repair. I'd contact Old Town Canoes to see it that material can be plastic welded and if so, where to get the materials. Good luck.

Hi. You will enjoy the 375 dollar fiberglass canoe, especially with all the accessaries! I don't think you could find a better price that would fulfill all your requirements. Fiberglass is easy to repair if damaged. All other surfaces are not and can become unrepairable! Fiberglass is also low maintainance but I would recommend storing it out of the sunlight. When you go for the purchase ask the previous owner if he would mind if you fill it up with water? This is one way of checking the integrity of the hull. My canoe has three seats. If you canoe has no seats sit on your lifejackets and it helps keep any supplies or you bum drier. Have fun! I'm getting ready to write some stories about my latest canoe trip. How do iI chose a fishing boat?

There are three styles of regular fishing boats; deep v, regular v or modified v. The v determines how well the boat cuts through the depth of the water. The deep v is better suited for large lakes because they can handle heavy waves better. Regular "v" is more appropriate for smaller lakes and a man made body of water. As the water is not as deep and the waves are not as heavy, this type of boat is able to handle the situation. The modified v is the most popular version. It is capable of handling speed best. Most fishing boats on the market today are made of fiberglass or aluminum. What is best for your fishing situation? Do you want to fish in large lakes or small lakes? The options are endless. There are several classes of fishing boats for different situations. All purpose fishing boats are great for your basic fishing needs. This type of boat has space for some bench seats, fishing gear and a simple steering station. They are made of either fiberglass or aluminum and are between 15 and 20 feet long. Another type of fishing boat is a bass boat, which comes fully equipped with space for rods and fishing gear. The boat is fully built with electronics and livewells. This boat also is made out of fiberglass and aluminum. The advantage to this type of boat is it is made especially to catch bass, fast. The third type of fishing boat is the center-console. It allows a fisherman to angle from any place on the deck. The control center is located in the center. Depending on the size of the boat they can be used offshore as well as near. Flats boats are mostly made up of fiberglass. The advantage of these boats is they allow easier angling access to saltwater flat fish. Another advantage it has is a poling platform that allows for fish spotting. Finally, a casting deck allows the angler to keep control. This makes this ype of boat convenient for fishing. The final category of fishing boats is the fun boat because it combines the motor of a yacht and the functionality of large a cockpit to work trophy fish and bring them on board. If ou are a fishing fanatic then it is important to have all the things that you need to make your fishing trip a success. Fishing boats are definitely the finishing touch to a nice fishing trip.

Gear for canoes

Here's a list of some of the other gear we would suggest: - A sturdy roof rack on your car (it will greatly reduce problems and add to your enjoyment). - Bow and stern tie-down lines - these are critical to the safe transport of your canoe when you are on the road. - A set of wheels to make getting your canoe to the water easier. - A bailer and sponge. - Padded canoe seats for longer journeys. - Dry bags to keep extra clothes and snacks protected from water coming in off your paddle, as well as from bow spray or rain.

Infatable canoe

Inflatable canoes have considerable appeal for certain uses. When folded they are quite compact and their weight - about twenty to thirty pounds - makes them ideal for toting to remote fishing waters or for storage in today's small car trunks. The better-quality versions are made of heavy-duty vinyl-coated polyester, or PVC, with multiple air compartments (so if one compartment springs a leak, you still have some flotation). Restrictions include speed, since inflatables are relatively slow, and they have minimal carrying capacity. Repair kits are a must on most trips. Also, you will want to have a foot pump to inflate the canoe before starting out.

Which canoe to choose

For fishing, a canoe with extra stability will increase your enjoyment as well as your safety, so a wider canoe, one that is 36" or wider with a flat bottom (versus a V bottom) is a good choice.

Actually a Scanoe with a square hole in it!!

Ha Ha! Very funny :)
Maybe, I've never tried it.

Is suppose with the gaping hole, it will allow the water in, so if Iput the clothes in the canoe, it will lilkely wash a little.

All kidding aside, since you know Coleman, I just wondered if you would have a referral to someone out this way

Cheers!
