The Gateway site doesn't work and I can't seem to find the video drivers for this Profile 5.5

SOURCE: I have a gateway Profile 5. when i cut it on

My understanding is that when you power on your PC, the POST is succesful, but then the system hangs.? If i am correct. There are several reasons this may happen.

1) Boot record corrupt
S) Reformat the harddrive and re-install operating system / replace hard drive

2) General Hard drive failure but boot record instact
S) Replace Hard drive

3) Operating system inoperative
S) Re-install operating system

Most pre-built systems come with recovery disks, you may try this as a solution if available.

When replacing a defective hard drive, or partialy inoperable hard drive, a good policy is to change the drive to slave, and install the new drive as master, this way any data you may be able to recover, can be done after the new hard drive is installed, and an operating system is installed on the new drive.

My gateway profile 5 will not install the network driver. 1394 net adapter is installed but doesn't connect me to the internet.


1394 is NOT your Network adapter... you need to go to device manager and look there for any "Network Adapter" then right click and "Update Drivers". Your network card will have a "Name" or say PCI network device or the like. Thats the driver you need to find and install. Hopefully it is on your drive somewhere.

go to driverall.com or put the name of your video card or chip in the google to find the site where you can downlaod the driver. it will be on *********** board. reboot your pc after installation. good luck

Try reinstalling audio adapter driver.

Washed out monitor when viewing most web pages


exchange your dell monitor to gateway monitor.If the monitor from dell showed the same problem when you connect it to gateway. you must install video card driver. and if the monitor from gateway showed the same problem when you connect it to dell adjust your contrast to full and the brightness to 50% and adjust the colors to 100%

Profile 5.5 during startup screen goes blank


If the video card is an "onboard type" Is is not easy to replace.If you have a seperate video card, you may replace it with a like type, PCI, AGP,PCIe,etc. or if you computer has an open slot a video card can be added and turn off the "onboard video" in start up screen BIOS .    Since this is a GATEWAY(I do not know the model) computer you also always have the option of a complete restore . 2002 gateway profile shutdown problem


You need to uninstall the graphic drivers for the card and install new ones from the makers site.

This can be done in device manager by right clicking in the display adapter and then uninstall. Then reboot and install the new up to date ones. Sounds like the ones you have in now are damaged or corrupt.

Doesnt explain the slowdown though sorry :(

Gateway has multiple part numbers for the LCD inverter board. Part numbers V01216400103, V01216400104, and V01216400105 are for the Profile 5 and 5.5 series with a 15" monitor. Part number V01316500104 and maybe others are installed in Profile 5 and 5.5 with 17" and 19" monitors. Also the LG part number for the 19" monitor provided in Gateway literature is LM190E02-A4. There is no mention of the LM190E05 SL in the product specs I have seen. Gateway does make special purpose runs and does change components without much much notice though. The definitive source of exact information is Gateway Tech Support. It may cost you a couple of bucks to get answers, but the value added to your system with a 19" vs. 15" screen to say nothing of the viewing comfort should far outweigh the cost of accurate information. Good luck with your upgrade. Please keep me posted on whatever you try be it successful or not. I too have a Profile 5.5 with 15" and have been considering the larger screen upgrade. BillyB.
