Need a boot disk, I do not work

It sounds like you need a boot disk for you operating system or you may have left a disk in your computer. In order too download a boot disk you will need to know what operating system you are using. You can try googling a boot system or go to a repair shop. the shop might sell you a disk or have you bring it in. I don't know if it is legal to download or buy a disk.
If you down load a boot file you will need to copy it on a disk on another computer. I am assuming your computer is not booting up. (Boot up means to turn on the computer which brings the system up). Sometimes one needs to go into CMOS and tell the computer which disk to boot from or other settings. If you don't know how to do this it is best to leave it to a pro as you can permenantly damage your system.

Install an operating system

You need to change boot options in BIOS. Press required F key during boot. Look on the screen since Function keys vary with systems. In boot options make optical drive (CD\DVD) 1st. Save and reboot. You should get "Press any key to boot from CD". Note: Some systems have an ad-hoc boot option during startup. Thus eliminating the need for BIOS change.

I think you need to re-install your os for some files that the Operating System need to boot properly is missing. First, run your xp or any operating system that your using and select repair. after doing this , booting problem will no longer be a problem to you my friend. Have a nice day and i was hoping this would solve your boot problem.

How to instal in pc

Hi, you haven't said for what operating system, but for XP. First you will need to change your primary boot device to CD Rom, to do this boot into BIOS by pressing the F1 key during initial boot fase, save changes after boot device has been selected, insert windows CD into drive and reboot. Select boot from CD, which appears during initial boot fase. Allow files to be installed, once finished you will need to delete operating system and repartition hard drive, then format hard drive. Once this completes PC will reboot, ignor boot from CD and allow PC to boot normally and it will start to install XP.

How to format my computer?

To format your computer, you must have the (OS) Operating system CD. You have to move your important file to another location because formating your system will wipe out all the files you have on that drive. Put the OS CD on your CD-ROM and restart your your system. When system boots it will boot to the CD-ROM if the boot order is set that way. Otherwise you need to set the first boot order to the CD-ROM from BIOS. When the system boots to the CD-ROM you will be asked to press any key to boot from the CD-ROM, do just that and the system will boot from the CD-ROM. Follow the on screen instructruction afterward.

I need to setup a dual boot computer. I have 2 hard drives each has an os I need the option to select at startup

Try Install KDE on your desktop, I think its much better than gnome for booting setup. There's another way which one you'd like to booth by striking the F8 key repeatedly on the restart or starting your PC and select the drive which drive you like to boot.Or you can configure it on your bios setup by hitting the del key and configure your boot priority.

Error message when starting up: <Windowsroot>\system 32\hal.dll. Please reinstall a copy of the above file.

This issue happens if boot files are corrupted .. you need to have the Operating System Cd to resolve this problem . Considering you have windows xp you need to have the installation cd for windows xp .
you need to use bootcfg command to resolve the issue.

Go to bios and change the boot sequence to boot from the cd, if you are not able to boot from the cd. and then boot using windows xp cd .

Then push R to go to recovery console and use the below command

Boot to Recovery Console and rebuild the BOOT.INI file with the BOOTCFG /REBUILD
command.
