If you do a full format, all the data on the disk will be overwritten with the formatting data - and you will lose the data you want to retrieve.

You definitely have chance to recover the movie back provided that it is not overwritten(if you continue taking more videos or photos, it might)
First things first: STOP using the camcorder that you want to recover data from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of data recovery.
Then Recommend you have a try of Wondershare Photo Recovery(also recover Movie and audio files), a recovery program with both Windows and Mac versions provided. It should help you. Get the program here,
For Windows - get the download
For Mac - get the download
Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your camcorder until you can recover your movie safely!

Yes it is possible to recover deleted files. the probability of getting it back is much better if you do not take any more videos in the mean time. Firstly, you need to find out if you took it with the camera hard drive or the memory stick. It usually defaults to the hard drive. You need to back up all the information on the hard drive first, because you'll be deleting it all to recover the file. Connect the camera to your computer and save the info. Then you can run this software on your hard drive which will recover any deleted files. Be aware you may get more files than just the one you deleted. Once you're done, you can format the hard drive and copy the info back from your computer. Thats it. Hope that helps.
