This is a very common problem with this model after a few years of use. This problem is caused by a failure of the capacitors in the power supply board hat powers up the back lights in the monitor. When the back lights don't power up you get no display on the screen. Here is a link to a repair guide for that model that shows how to open the unit and what to look for and replace to repair the monitor.

Is your system seeing the monitor appropriately? Meaning does it say the exact model number or just "default monitor?" If it says default, then go to ViewSonic's website and download the correct driver for your OS. Install and reboot. You should be able to choose the correct resolution now.

Let the unit cool down for 30 min., give proper ventilation because your processor have a heat sensor, once reached the peak temp the unit will automatically shuts off. Keep away all the obstruction from your vent.

Most of the computer stores or a electronics store like office depot or radio shack or walmart or k-mart ect ect ....will have these cords
Furthermore if you have a second hand store in your area they might have them there too
