Open the cpu cabinet cover.Clean dust from all parts. Pull cmos cell from motherboard for 10 minutes then reconnect it again so all settings defaults.. Reconnect RAM memory.Try with another RAM if you have. Reconnect processor and it's fan. Make sure motherboard is not ground with cabinet cover. Remove pci card if any if you use vga card then reconnect it. Then check. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

My Dell Optiplex gx280 desktop error. It show only red light near the power button and nothing on the screen

Hi,
It sound like bad capacitors on the board. If you remove the top cover and then look under the DVD try to identify bad capacitors.
Ill attach a picture of bad capacitors for you, they are pretty easy to identify (the pop up or leak fluid)

If it is bad capacitors you could try to buy new ones and solder them back, but thats a totally different story.

Good luck!

The fan(which runs on a bearing) has aged, it must be replaced. Luckily this is an easy and cheap fix. Pick one

Dell optiplex gx280 makes loud fan sound at startup and enters windows screen, but will not finish booting and freezes up.

You may have a problem with your power supply(the loud fan noise) and eventually it may get too hot and will cause problems like not fully booting.

Problem withe dell gx280 fan and display

Unfortunately this seems so be a motherboard problem, Dell's solution is to replace the motherboard I'm not sure there's much you can do at home or work to fix this - if it's still under warranty get dell to replace the motherboard if not im afraid its the bin for it sorry
