On the lower right side of the lens (as viewed from the rear) is a small button that releases the ring around the lens barrel. Removing the ring reveals a bayonet-style mounting flash that allows you to attach a lens adapter for extended telephoto, wide angle, or macro capabilities. Visit your photographic stockist for info on what is available

Lens will not retract

Lens errors (E18 errors on some Canons) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Flashing yellow light -- lens won't retract

Lens is jammed, you need to get it back on track. Gently push lens back in with a flat object to keep it straight, like a tabletop while powering it on. This may or may not work, but a jammed lens on these styles of cameras is common and renders the camera useless.
