Question about Acer TravelMate C110 Tablet PC

1 Answer

Recovery Problems I need to perform a a recovery on this tablet laptop but the problem is the firewire cd/dvd drive doesn't work. I have two of thes Acer external firewire drives and neither works so it is probably the firewire port on the unit but the wires on these drives are notoriously flimsy. I tried doing a restore from the hidden partition drive that is on every Acer but the Alt F10 function does nothing. I even purchased a usb cd/dvd drive to try to boot the recovery CD from it but it won't recognize the drive. I was thinking I might try making a bootable usb thumbdrive from the recovery CD and then using the bios to boot from it. Running out of ideas though. The machine is still working pretty well it has ton's of corrupted installs on it and needs to be flushed. Can't find the handle though. :-)

The Tablets can be quite difficult to perform a reimage or recovery on as most bios versions on them do not recognise a USB device as bootable.

My recommendation would be to obtain a Bootable Floppy disk that contains an imaging program. (GHOST. Powerquest etc).

From here you may have 2 options available to you.
1. Attempt to recover using the hidden partition on your hard drive.

2. Recover from an image located via the network. You will need to ensure that a driver for your network card is also bundled into this install. Once this boothdisk has been created you will need to create a "shared folder" on another PC which contains the image you require. Once the bootdisk has loaded point yourself to the shared folder.

Lastly - You may be able to find an updated bios version that allows boot from USB device.

Remove password bios toshiba portege m400 please!

Here is a guide toremove windows passwordwith Windows Password Recovery Tool Professional from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com/Step1: Download and install Windows Password Recovery Tool.
Step2: Burn CD/DVD/USB Flash Drive. (Namely it is to burn a Windows password reset disk.)
Step3: Set the target computer boot from CD/DVD or USB.
Step4:Remove the forgotten Windows passwordwith the burned CD/DVD/USB. Then log on to Windows without a password.
Of course, you can also finish Windows password remover if you have a password reset disk in advance. That's also an easy solution.

Forgot password, does not have cd rom drive, need to restore to factory settings. How???

Hi there,

How to obtain Vista Recovery Media and/or use the Vista Recovery Partition on your computer to put it back to Factory Settings.

There is no legal free Vista download available.

Contact your Computer Manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of Vista Recovery disk/s.

They normally do that for a small $ cost.

Also, ask them if you have a Recovery Partition on your Computer/Laptop to restore it to Factory settings.

See if a Manual came with the computer, or go to the Manufacturer's website, email or phone them for info on how to do a Recovery.

Normally, you would press F10 or F11 at Startup to commence the Recovery Process..

Another way I have seen on some models is to tap F8, and go to a list of Startup options, and start a Factory Standards Recovery from in there, by selecting the Repair computer option.

Also ask them if it is possible to make Recovery Disk/s from the Recovery Partition in case of Hard Drive failure or System Crash.

They will tell you how to do that.

Each Computer Manufacturer has their own way of making Recovery Disk/s.

Or borrow a proper Microsoft Vista DVD(not Dell, HP, etc).
A proper Vista DVD contains all Vista versions.
The Product Key determines which Vista version gets installed.

There are 2 Vista disks: one for 32bit Operating System, and one for 64bit Operating System.

If a clean install is required with a proper Vista DVD (not HP, Dell Recovery Disks):

Go into your Bios/Setup, or Boot Menu, at startup, and change the Boot Order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the Boot Order, then reboot with the disk in the Drive.

At startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, to go into Bios/Setup, or F12 for the Boot Menu

Windows Vista Installation Super Guide

After installation > Go to your Laptop/Computer Manufacturer's website > Drivers and Downloads Section > Key in your Model number > Look for latest Vista Drivers for it > Download/install them.

Save all Data, as it will be lost during a clean install.

Post back if it is not working we will be happy to help you.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!!!!

Yeah! You can. As far as I know, third party software Windows Login Recovery is used to reset forgotten windows password and the windows password reset file can be stored in a USB flash drive.

> check the disk

Check for scratches on the media.

Also, it could be "bad" RAM in the computer that is creating "random" problems, which could be reported by the B.S.O.D.
If the computer has multiple sticks of RAM, remove one, and try again.

My pc cdrom/dvd drive failed to read my recovery cd

Are you attempting to boot from a bootable disc? A failed drive can cause the other on the bus not to work. Try each one separate set as master or cs (cable select).

You need to provide your computer's part number correct to get the matching recovery disk. Usually they charges $39.95 including shipping to your address in US.
