Question about Galaxy Radios DX-44V 40-Channels Base CB Radio

Quiet Galaxy DX 44V

I have a relitavely new Galaxy DX 44V installed in a 2001 Mack CH600 using dual firestick antennas. I can recieve for miles but was told today that you have to be close to my truck to hear me and even then its really low. I've already tried turning up all my gains and even tried a different mic. I took the cover off and there appears to be no burning, melting, etc. Is there an adjustment I can make to a pod or maybe replace a resistor or something to fix this problem?? This radio used to transmit pretty loud and now all of a sudden its down to a wisper!

Sounds like you have lost a final or a driver transistor if so a shop or reputable repairman is your best answer. You should also have him check your cables and SWR on your antenna system as well as check for loose grounds. Sounds like you had a high SWR and blew out a final transistor. But it could be as simple as a loose component or cold solder joint in the radio. Get professional help.

Measure out your coax in 3ft intervals. Like if you need 7ft use a 9ft length of coax. Also make sure your mirrors are grounded use a external swr meter as well, the internal swr on the galaxy could be off. .

Galaxy 44v has no modulation

If its a used radio it could be a number of reasons. If its a new radio it could be half those reasons.. Assuming its a new radio you need to remove the bottom cover and with a copy of the service manual you need to adjust the modulation .

Replace the AM final, then make sure your antenna is tuned to lowest SWR to prevent the final from burning out again.

Does the galaxy dx 44 v have dual finals ? thanks

No, the Galaxy DX44V is a single final radio. It is a 1969 transistor (tr43) mounted on the rear chassis in between the RF driver amp transistor (tr44) and the antenna jack.
