SOURCE: I have a Gateway Mx6440 Laptop and et CPU FAN

hello there... i just had that same problem but got it figured out.. it was a really easy fix, but dont know if your problem will be the same... what i did was open up the panel covering the fan on the underside of the come and then unscrewed the bronze thing connected to the fan unplugged it then took the actual fan covering off and found a small amount of lint/dust that had accumulated there and was too much for the little motor to keep spinning... so yea.. you can give that try! might work... removing that lint completely fixed my comp... good luck

SOURCE: CPU Fan Error - Averatec 3200

First, download PC Wizard 2008 so you can check the fan speeds and temp of your CPU (and every other component of your PC if need be) and see if it's operating properly. You can find it here:
http://pc-wizard-2008.en.softonic.com/
If it's malfunctioning, you'll need to replace it.

Gateway m465e laptop will not turn on

When the CPU overheats then it will shut down (i.e. thermal overload) and won't boot up again until it has cooled down. If this is the problem is not fixed then the CPU will eventually fail.
A faulty fan causes the problem or the fan and heat sink assembly are clogged with dust.
Check the CPU fan to see if it spins freely, if not replace the fan.
If the fan and heat sink is clogged with dust the remove the dust and make sure the vents are clear and dust free. Use a small brush and can of compressed air to do this.

The touchpad has decided that it wants to make a big blue square or rectangle...pushing a mouse button resolves this very temporaily. Any thoughts

removing the touchpad cover on a gateway laptop is not easy at all. i just did that today and it was quite a process, though removing it would allow you to check the connections. but first, before you assume its a hardware issue, i would boot a live cd of linux to see if you touchpad works there, if so, then its a software issue not a hardware issue. if its a software issue, you may be able to resolve it by backing up your files and reinstalling the operating system.

When i boot up the laptop i get a message 'Main Fan Error' the fan runs on start up then stops just before i get the error message. Fan will not restart... Joseph

Hi,

This message means that the fan on your CPU (processor) is failing or has failed. This is not good because if the fan on the CPU fails your CPU will overheat and cause your machine to lock up and become non-functional till it cools down and then the same cycle will repeat till the fan is replaced.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Gateway MX6440 heat sink failure

Check your BIOS settings when the PC starts, this can be accomplished by pressing F2 or Delete (depending on your model) when in your Bios check the power settings for CPU options such as SMART CPU and other variations. Most newer laptops and desktops have temp sensors that regulate fan speeds, thus saving energy and prolonging the lifespan of your fan, let me know if this helps you out

Gateway M-6307 power dies on boot up (reaches widow screen dies)

Hi,

Make sure that it must be charged. If you are sure, there might be a problem of overheating.

If you check, there is a CPU fan. Overheating might cause thie.

Use a vacuum to cool on the fan to make it spin manually, hmmm it actually started to work after that.

If not, let me know.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

make sure that the power reqs for the fan are the same as one you replaced and make sure that the new fan is the same prong (3 or 4). Also make absolutely sure you plugged the new fan power supply inti the CPU fan slot

Gateway Laptop overheated and stopped working.

Usually when the laptop overheats the CPU shuts down, and after it cools down you may be able to power it up again, unless the CPU has failed.
If you are able to get the laptop working, get the fan replaced, if it laptop doesn't boot up then there is a serious problem (most likely a costly one).
